    Cell Phones

So two months ago I switched to my boyfriend's fathers cell phone plan because it would save me $40 a month since they have a family share plan...Well he doesn't always pay it on time, right now he is a month in a half behind...(I have already paid the $20 that I owe) well since he hasn't paid my cell phone is shut off now, I can receive text and calls but can't call or text out. What makes me upset is that the Childrens Hospital just called me back, probably to offer me the position because they got a hold of my references and it rung twice and then it stopped....I don't know if they hung up or since my phone is shut off it wouldnt let them leave a voicemail? Then I had a parent all worried because I wasn't answering her text, I felt so bad...she called and I got to it in time so I explained to her what was going on....I don't have a house phone, if anything happened I could go to my neighbor, she is an RN.

This just frustrates me, this is the one thing I was worried about when switching to his dads cell phone plan....

You need to get your own plan or buy a prepaid cell for emergencies. It is so dangerous to be without outgoing phone service. No amount of money saved is worth the "what ifs" of not having reliable phone service. Running next door is not a good alternative BC in an emergency, every second counts.

I'd go get a prepaid phone and try to get the same number transferred if possible. Or go to the cell phone company and ask them if you can get your own plan, with that number, and you'll pay for your own plan.

It's not your fault he isn't paying. You paid him, he didn't pay it, and your phone got shut off. So, your money saving plan is costing you money. I'd let the boyfriend's dad deal with the extra cost.

I'm assuming this man is in his 40s??? How does a 40something yr old man just NOT pay his cell phone bills? That means his whole financial life is a mess.

In my state it is against the law to operate an in-home daycare without a landline telephone!

Cells can break easily, be dropped in water, etc. They are a convenience but a landline is safer! You can probably get one hooked up for less than $20 a month without long distance. I would look into it if you are going to continue having issues with your cell phone.

        Or

Rather than saving the $40 a month, have your own plan so you know you will always have service.

That really stinks that you are in this situation. In my state it is illegal to operate your DC without a phone on the site... If I were you I would go out and get magic jack or something similar.

Also, gmail has a free phone service that you can make out going calls on. You cannot get incomming calls, but you can call out. If you have a gmail account look into it, or think about creating one. If you sign up you can start making phone calls right away.

BTW, the magic jack is a one time fee to buy the equipment. You can get it at target or walmart. DONT buy it off the internet you will get ****ed into a crazy plan you don't want...

I love the magic jack, no fees and you can call anywhere. it cost me about 39.99 plus tax. Hooks right up to your computer...

          Best of luck..

You can also text from Yahoo IM. I message my daughter all the time. You just type in the phone number where it asks for a yahoo name.

Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!

Yahoo also says you can make a phone call from Yahoo. I've never tried that though.

              Thrifty Caller!!!

I would get a landline or a prepaid cell. I'm not sure about your state but here with our landline company we have something called the Thrifty Caller. It only costs $8 a month plus taxes!! If I didn't have internet my bill would only be $20 a month (because I also have caller ID and call waiting) With thrifty caller u can have as many incoming calls as u want. The catch is when u make out going calls. Depending on time of day and the location around my town the rates vary. I do make outgoing calls but very mimimal because I also have a cell phone. I have a signal for when I want to call my friend or Mother just to chat and not burn cell minutes. I call and let it ring twice and hang up. That lets them know to call me back and I dont get charged. I would ask if u have a thrifty caller plan.
