I saw many an episode before that had Squidward calling spongebob and partrick morons idiots etc. I do not allow young children to watch such things, what if they start calling each other that or the parents. When/if we do get TV time here it's Sprout or Disney, PBS or a leap frog video. What made me decide once and for all my 9 yr old was not allowed to watch it anymore was when they went on a panty raid and it turned out to me Mr Krabs Mothers house. I think a panty raid is just awful to be teaching children so we are done in this house.
Ohmygosh....

I do not allow those during daycare either. I was referring to the Mickey Mouse club house on Disney. The longest the kids have ever sat in front of my TV was about 30 minutes while I prepare dinner. Sorry I should have been more specific.- Flag

I think it is terrible and never let kids watch it or anything along the same lines at my house. It has sexual overtones and jokes that are not appropriate for young kids. Also the language is nothing I would let my kids say- and therefore shouldnt be exposed to.- Flag

Once in awhile we have a day we show a movie that is appropriate and twice in the last month we've put on a rug rats episode but they're about 15-20 minutes. I watched Rug Rats growing up so it's so funny it is a dvd at the daycare,.

The squirrel is a girl
I don't mind Sponge Bob - in fact, I actually like it. I can't stand the teen comedies - Victorious, Hannah Montana, etc. - they drive me up the wall.
Also, I don't think it's just the older kids' cartoons that are always offensive. Anyone ever watched Caillou? That kid is whiny little brat! And does Dora EVER stop shouting? And where are poor Max and Ruby's parents? Maybe if they were around, Max would listen once in awhile instead of being so defiant. :P
I don't think the cartoons I watched as a kid were much better. Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, and the Road Runner/Coyote were all SO violent. Charlie Brown was always depressed, and have you ever watched a Disney movie? They're all full of adult jokes and innuendo.
Wow, I didn't realize I had so much to say about this. Haha!
That is all. Continue- Flag

Even shows like Family Guy (not child appropriate AT ALL), but the young kids, even a lot of teenagers, would not understand what is going on. Little kids mostly just watch, not listen.
I can think of a few movies/shows I grew up with, that I watched on a daily basis, and never had a clue what was ACTUALLY being talked about. I watched these 10000000 times, and it wasn't until I was ALOT older when I finally LISTENED to what was being said.- Flag

I asked if it was ok to watch certain movies (for movie day), and she said oh yeah, anything is fine, as long as it is NOT RUGRATS! they are always saying stupid babies and she didn't want her son saying it..

Did you ever notice how many curse words there are in Disney/PG movies?
Pinnoccio says "Jack@ss", for example...and most all of them contain a stray "d" or "h" word.- Flag

i agree - i don't think it's the best cartoon by any means, but i do think that most things are over the kid's heads. lots of cartoons and kid's movies are like that - they make it so adults can find it amusing without kids really understanding the hidden messages.- Flag

I used to LOVE Spongebob, not so much anymore, but more-so because I think it's annoying.
We don't have cable at all, we only have Netflix and I have put a lot of tv shows on my instant queue that are kid-friendly for the 2-4 range. Shows like Arthur, Wonder Pets, Word World, and Dragon Tales. Basically, if it's on PBS, then I let them watch it. The TV isn't on for very long, but that's what they get to choose from. No annoying or inappropriate commercials, I can start or stop it at any time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Netflix!
I'm not that conservative of a person, I just don't want my kids or any of my dck's repeating something that could get them in trouble.
Oh....and Caillou s*cks- Flag
