What Are Some Of The Weirdest Things Parents Have Said At You're Daycare Tour?

oh the cat thing! that reminds me....I have one family that is constantly blaming everything on allergies. One time there kid had an awful awful cold and when I sent her home, parents of course didn't do anything about it because it was allergies BUT there was several feet of snow outside, mid-winter and we hadn't even gone outside for days! BUT mom said melting snow causing her allergies to kick up and even the minute from the car to my door was enough to cause severe hacking, runny nose, fever ALL day.....okaaayyyy. When we moved, they wanted us to contact the previous owners to see if they had a cat (to have another allergy reason behind kiddos sicknesses). The house had been empty for up to a year, the daycare area contained no carpet, rugs or fabrics of any kind when we moved in. Needless to say, I did not contact realtors and who knows who else to track down these poor previous owners with a ridiculous question. Even if they had a cat, that doesn't solve the issue of your kid being sick TODAY!- Flag

(PTDD) Potential Daycare dad
PTDD: "I'm allergic to cats".
Me: "Okaaay... I don't have a cat. I do have dogs"
PTDD: "Do any of the other kids have cats?"
Me: "Maybe... there's a really good chance that someone does, or will"
PTDD: "But, I'm allergic to cats.... (long pause, hoping I know what he's trying to get at).... Can you ask the parents if they have cats?"
Me: "And, then what?"
PTDD: "We need a cat free environment"
Me: "I don't have cats" WTH???
PTDD: "I don't want my child around kids who have cats".
Me: "She's TWO.. even if none of these kids have cats, she's eventually going to run into someone with a cat... (long pause waiting for him to just take his freaky self out of here)...Have you ever looked into hiring a Nanny?.....or Claritin?"
PTTD: "Can't you just ask if the kids have a cat or intend to get a cat in the next four years?"
Me: "sure... call me in about a week".
Darned if I hadn't filled that spot when he called.- Flag

Interview just ended about 10 min ago..
Nice family.....crazy jealous mom.......WOW
My outfit I wore, juicy work out jogging suit. All the way zipped up. I dont get dressed up for my interviews, as I want them to see me how they will always see me.. but I am neat and clean..
Mom asks me. how will you dress for daycare when the kids are here, I want a good role model for my son
I say, just like you see me now, comfortable, able to get dirty and dance around in.
She says, well honestly,my husband has an issue with cheating and I don't want him looking at you while he's here.
I quickly changed the subject....
WTH really.
Oh she also said that I would not get any of dad personal info, like cell #, work # and etc......
WOW yeah they won't be getting a call back- Flag

I had a completely overbearing and condesnding dad TELL me that my hubby, mother and father would need police checks done on my dollar before he would consider a secondinterview. I had mentioned that my parents lived next door and talking to "Papa" through the fence was one of their favorite things to do.
Another mom tried to tell me about how her children ate organic food and had never watched tv. While the 2.5 year old screamed for shows both by name and by screaming for the stations she likes to watch best. hahaha- Flag

We live in a townhouse condo on a corner lot. Because these are condos all parking is assigned. Corner units are bigger than the other units and have 2 additional parking spots (not including the garage and driveway) instead of just 1 like the other units. Parking is a big deal around here especially when other people park in others parking spaces so I make it very clear over the phone, at interviews, in my contract and handbook that parking anywhere else is off limits and that we can get reported and fined and that clients will pay these fees. Somehow I still get these at interviews:
-"I can park in that spot right there in front closest to the bushes right? Cuz that's where I parked"
You mean the red curb by the fire hydrant that has white stripes across it that says in 12" letters "No Parking"? Um, no.
-"the spot you told me to park in was taken. (she was late 1 hr to the interview so my BIL was home by then and parked in the spot which is his but clients can use it during DC hours since he gets home late) so I parked in the space next to it. That's ok right?"
Oh you mean the spot that has my neighbors address on it because .... well, it's his parking spot? No. Move your car.
-"I'm always in a hurry in the morning. Can you not park your car in the driveway so that I can park there. If I honk you can open the garage and I can get in that way instead of having to go all the way around to the front"
I don't have a sarcastic response for this one. It still just makes me speechless.
I also had a woman repeat "Tell me more!" after I said anything about my program. No other response.
Me. I provide all meals
Her. Tell me more!
Me. Um, I also provide most necessities. You will only have to bring diapers, wipes an extra set of clothing to keep here"
Her. Tell me more!
WTH?!?
And once after showing a family our DC DVD collection the dad asked if he could borrow some and promised to bring them back.
When I was pregnant I had one woman with a four month old ask if i was willing to breast feed her baby once my milk came in because it would be "so much more healthy and beneficial for her baby than formula".
Yup, I've had share of crazies. I would like to add that i used the long blank uncomfortable stare in each of these situations. People are so strange Nd selfish nowadays that it still amazes me.
The breast milk kills me!!!! Hahahaa, what a freak!
And these are all soooo good I'm just trying to contain myself (naptime)...hilarious!- Flag

I've only worked in centers but I've heard some great ones. I had a fussy baby starting and mom writes me a note to tell me how to calm him down...
Things like:
"He really likes to hear the sound of running water, so just stand next to the sink with him."
"He will calm down if you turn on a hair dryer right next to him."
Yes, because I generally bring a hair dryer to work with me!
Plus I love getting notes from first time mom's with lists of their 6 week old's "favorite" things. Really? They do not have favorite things yet! LOL!- Flag

Tell them without full info from both parents, you can not enroll their child. That you could need it in an emergency. Thank you for your interest, but this just wouldn't work out. Thanks again, bye. And then hang up.- Flag

I would tell them by the interview you really don't think they will be a great match for the childcare. Unless they are willing to fill everything out on the contract/registration form (dads info) and you feel there will be no trust issues then maybe consider it. Just by the moms attitude I wouldn't chance it!- Flag

I think I am going to wait to return the call and then tell them that I still have other families to consider. I will get back to them on my decision of who I want to choose...- Flag

. Really though on the serious note I don't think you should take this family unless you can have both of their information. What happens if there's an accident or the kid gets sick and the mom can't be reached. I mean come on really. I like how she's more worried about her husband than her kids. Seems loony to me anyway
