    Boredom

    Hi everyone,

I am a nanny for two kids, and am finding myself so bored during the day. They are 3 and 1 years old, and the day seems sooo long (9 hours). I go to work so early, as they live about 15-20 minutes away (have to get up at 6 am) and by the time I get home I am often tired!

What sort of schedules do you follow in your day homes? What would you do to cure boredom if you were only looking after two kids in their home?

To cure my own boredom, when the kids are playing more-or-less well together and more-or-less on their own, I sit in the playroom with a book or my laptop, or an e-reader if I had one, and do my own thing. I'm right there, I intervene if it's asked or interact if it's asked, but for the most part, they all play and I read.

I get a lot more bored when we're outside, especially outside in less than ideal weather. I sometimes bring my book, I sometimes just sit back and relax, and when the weather is good I spend time working in the landscaping.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

      Hi kgirl!

I am a nanny too. I also have 2 kiddos 3 years old and a 10 month old. My day is also very long. I start at 6:30 and end at 3:00. However, since I am an hour away I get up at 5 (or before) and I am not home until 4 (on a good day!) So I totally know where you are coming from!

I follow a schedule that was typical of when I taught pre-k. We have circle time, even though its just 1 child. Sometimes the baby will sit with me, other times she does her own thing. But we do flash cards, worksheets, projects. Other times we are just lazy and do nothing!

Lately I have been taking both children to the park. It's about a 15 min walk. It gets me out of the house and getting some exercise as well as the kiddos. Plus I talk to the other women there.

I also cook/bake alot. I use to hang on the 3 year old before the baby was born. I wasn't comfortable letting him play by himself :: But then I learned (from here of all places!) that he MUST learn to be by himself and learn to play that way. Hence me getting into my favorite hobby.

It was difficult once the baby was born. She was a VERY demanding baby. I couldn't put her down. Luckly mom was upstairs and she would breastfeed her alot since she never took to pacifiers. So I really couldn't teach much then. But once she started crawling (at 5 months!) then things got a lot better and I was able to continue what I do.

It also helps that the baby doesn't nap. So when the 3 y.o goes to nap so does she. I use to put them down at 12:30 after lunch but I found that they would be up by 2:00. So I moved lunch later and nap later and now they sleep until after I leave ::

If you have any more questions etc...please feel to ask or pm me!
