    Troublesome Behaviors

I'd love you input......and I'm not going say what I think so far.....I'd just love fresh thoughts that aren't led by my opinions...

I have a boy who is 4.5 yrs old. He has imporoved immensly since he first came to me 7 months ago. I noticed right away that he had almost no self help skills. Could not even take off his coat or put on his shoes. Well, we are all about self help here....so he finally learned although "forgot" when parents picked him up. He did mean little things to other kids....like kicking or hitting. But....he would have no expression change. His face remained blank...then I would ask why he kicked so and so and he would answer in a robot voice....I do not know. His face seemed vacant. Since being here awhile....that has gotten better (the robot voice). but he does still grab skin when I walk out of the room and then quickly move away I guess in hopes that I don't see it.

    what I see now:

He will hug kids but will not hug adults including me or parents although he does show that he lovesh is parents in other ways.

He calls himself by his first name.....If I ask....who has their shoes on....he will say...Mark does.

He hurts kids in small ways but it's at times where nothing is going on.. seems to be impulsive. He will often say he did not do it.....even if I saw it.

He is on target in all other ways. He gets along with the other kids unless he hurts them....then they want to stay away.

He seems to hurt one particular boy more than others. Doesn't hurt the girls

So????? Just give me some thoughts. I've formed some of my opinion of what could be going on....but I'd love to hear your input .

Have you taken time to document some of these occurences? If so, it might be a good time to have him evaluated for a few things. I am not a psychiatrist, but it could be many many options and they are so much better. My first thought, is a learning disability, my nephew (now 9) was diagnosed with a learning disability and they were able ot intervene so quickly (and this was when he was 3. He has aspbergers, and it sounds like his behavior is similar, but it could be ANYTHING.....
