    References?

I'm starting a family daycare in September.

I used to be a Nanny, and had several families I babysat for regularly. The problem is, that was all before I finished school and got a job outside the field. (about 10 years)

Now I am in a situation that I don't have any current references. The families have since moved away (Military families....I was a base brat. ), and I am no longer in touch.

I am going to offer personal references from co-workers and such to show I am not a crazy person, what do you think about that?

Do you have friends with children that you have spent time with? Perhaps some of them could provide a reference for you.

That's a good idea. I only have one friend with kids, but that would help. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, depending upon how you get your business, some people really don't even ask for references. I was surprised that none of my clients asked for references, but I think I exude...not crazy! And I always have my baby with me on interviews, so that probably makes a big difference. He's very hard to resist.

Offer the references you have available, but I wouldn't worry about it. You may find people who don't ask and don't check, and once you get your first successful client, you won't need to worry about references anymore.
