Children and Self Control

So...I'm taking a course in Applied Behavioral Analysis II as prereq for the Special Education masters program. This morning our Prof sent us an interesting article regarding young children, self control, and adult outcomes.

It is a really interesteing article and speaks volumes to what is going to become of this generation of children if parents don't get off the couch and really start parenting!

I'd LOVE to hear everyones opinions!!!!

Interesting! I can see how self-control can be a predictor for success in adult-life. I steered clear of the Tiger mother part of it, as I am staying clear of that controversy, but teaching self-control is always a good idea!

I have been telling my preschool parents about the importance of self-control for school success for a long long time! So nice to finally be right about something....

And, yeh, I don't care for the reference to Tiger mom. She is NOT right.

LOL! I have NO clue who this Tiger Mother is or what it is she is preaching, I was just referring to the study! Now I'm curious tho...I might have to google!

Tiger mother is this woman who wrote a book called Battle Hymn of the Tiger mother. Her name is Amy Chua. In her book, she has supposedly written about some extreme parenting techniques she's used. Though her daughters now have amazing self-control and determination, Chua is being chastised for the things she's written about. Definitely google it, it's interesting.
