I have been open for just under two months. I have a small licensed group of four, including my own. All four are under 3yo. Three of them, including my own, are under 2. The first two weeks I was open, HFM came through my home. I immediately implemented a more strict and ridiculous disinfecting routine and somehow prevented my day care children from getting it. Since then, I have contracted scabies! My husband does not have them, nor does my teenage son, but my 16 month old daughter now has them too.
I notified my parents, began a very strict laundry routine (I wash all bedding, clothing, and towels daily) and upped my cleaning routine to twice a day. I spend more time cleaning than I am able to spend with the kids. My daughter and I were treated immediately. I am watching the other children closely and have had one out of the three diagnosed with scabies just yesterday.
Mom was great and is going through her home and ready to do her treatment. My doctor re-wrote the prescription and my entire family is going to re-treat. We're planning on treating together.
My problem comes in with the other two families. Both don't seem to think their children are going to show symptoms, and they may not but it can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to start seeing symptoms. They contacted their doctors at my request for treatment but their doctors stated they won't treat without symptoms. I've heard that group homes and daycare centers have been able to do group treatments. I would like a group treatment done. I'm curious to know if you were able to initiate this and how did you get your families and doctors to get on board? Two of my families don't seem to take this seriously and I don't want to be reinfected and have to treat AGAIN. I seriously do 7 or more loads of laundry a day. I've been doing this for two weeks now and I'm burned out.
What was your experience with scabies?
