    Afternoon Circle Time

    Hello everyone.

I'm STILL working on the transition from being an Infant /Toddler daycare to a preschool setting. I'm interested in adding an Afternoon circle time to my schedule. I'm having a "brain - freeze" right now on what to do during that little 10 mins. Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.

Songs with finger and other body movements. The ABC song, read a story and talk about it! Pull out an everyday item and ask the kiddos questions about it! What color is it? What shape is it? What does it do

Reading a short story, and something at their reading level so the book can be passed around.

Quick spelling bee. Maybe even have each child give the next one the word to spell.
Children are little angels, even when they are little devils.
        They are also our future.

Use one circle time for one type of learning, and the other for another. Like, focus on letters & sounds in the a.m. and counting, number recognition, simple mathematics for the other.
Each session could have a related book, song and activity.
Other learning could also be included but use the items you choose as your base.

My first thought was to use one as active learning and the other as cognitive. But I have the sense you're looking for the cognitives.

              I'm all for
              Music and movement or
Storytelling through books, or flannel board, prop stories, etc, or
              Color & shape activities or
Children's poem written on chart paper or tag board for shared reading or
              An alphabet game or

Something from my drawer of stand byes.....I have a collection of books that are also songs, Lady With The Alligator Purse, Shoo Fly, Oh Where Has My Doggie Gone? Etc. I have glove puppets with fingerplays in there, flannel board activities, other interactive activities with visuals, rhyming activities, a very large die...child rolls it and picks the action...three? Jump three times, six? Stomp six times, etc. I could go on and on!
