    Hauling Rock-Memorial Weekend

We spent time today with my family and at my mom's graveside. Beautiful day...sunny, warm breeze, perfect! To top it off, I found someone who is giving away 10 yards of rock for free! We will haul it tomorrow and my attitude may be a bit less excited after all the work, but it's free! Hallelujah! Happy Memorial weekend to everyone and a heartfelt thanks to those who make our freedom possible!!!!lovethis

I found someone on craigslist giving away river rock. I estimated I got about $100 worth of rock. Saved me money, and saved him paying someone to haul it away. Win-win :-)

Wowser, 10 yds.?! Have fun with that. It'll be worth it when you're all done. What is your project with it going to be?
It's wonderful when you can get something for free and help the other guy too.
The past couple weeks I've been hauling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of sand, rocks and dirt. I have to tell you, rocks were not my favorite. Gave me more blisters and muscle aches than the other stuff.
Today my sister and her dh are coming up to hal some of my dirt away. I was going to advertise it as free landfill as someone here suggested but come to find out, my BIL can use it. So Yay!!
Yesterday I sent lots of time hauling the rock and dirt, also planting at the cemetery. And I still need to plant flowers at my house.
After all that is done, I need to assemble a garden bridge and make my water table corner outside, finish filling my sandbox area. And maybe get more mulch. Or maybe take a vacation.

We spent the weekend doing yard work but not hauling rock or sand. But I have done the sand before in my play area in Kansas. Man that was work. I think we got 3 tons of it. Not sure it was a dump truck full I can tell you!

I miss going to the cemetery, but all our family is in Kansas and we are in Ohio so kinda a long drive. Hopefully they all know I thought of them and they are in my heart.

          Free? Awesome!!

DH and I just bought 12.7 yrds (16 TONS) for landscaping and paid $800 for it!

Thankfully it was only a portion that had to be moved by hand as DH owns a Bobcat skidsteer so he used that to move most of it.

Here is what we've been working on

We used to have a waterfall and pond but licensing no longer allows it Not even an eco-friendly rain garden or even bird baths!
Before all that happened I had planned to make a circulating creek stocked seasonally with fish and other aquatic creatures. It would have provided hours of fun and learning.

BC has a special situation. She owns a home to live in and one to do daycare. Many states don't allow that, but hers does. I kind of envy her. She gets to "go home" at the end of the day.

Haha! We did used to have them but it got old bringing them inside in the cold months. Plus some of them got huge so it became unmanageable.

But a turtle crossed my whole yard yesterday :: (the dog only messed with him once) trying to make it to the wild life pond and last night (about 7:30) when I was coming out of the garage I had two wolves walk up my driveway!

We have a lot of coyotes and wolves but they usually stay out of the yard.
Freaked my dog out a big but luckily my DH was on the front step and when I yelled he chased them out of the yard.

It can be scary sometimes if I'm alone but we've always had dogs and so thankfully it's rare for anything too threatening to come into the yard.

BC how long is your riverbed? This is your dc right? Or is this your own home? If this was my dc, I'd never want to go home.
Back to the circulating riverbed, is that a difficult project to put together? My dcks would absolutely LOVE that! Was it expensive?

I don't know about where you live, but in Ohio and Kansas as long as they have a place where the water is below a certain depth, you can leave them out in the winter. They can withstand cold. They basically hibernate and don't eat or move much. But they can't actually "freeze". That depth is different everywhere.

Yeah our ponds and lakes freeze pretty deep. Leaving them out isn't an option here.

Our pond (not landscaped pond but a real pond) freezes solid.
