Let's Talk POOP!

Ok, let's be honest here about pooped in underwear. Tell me who does what- 1) You just throw them out, 2) You rinse them out and send home with child, 3) You put soiled undies in a bag and send home. What's your policy?

I discuss that with the parent during the interview (mainly for children who have recently become potty trained) or when the child in my care becomes potty trained and is new to wearing underwear.

I ask them what they want me to do; either throw them away or give them to the parent, poop and all in a bag. I would, of course, do my best to dump the poop in the toilet if possible, but our licensing rules restrict me from rinsing them out or washing soiled clothes. So far, every parent has told me that if they are too messy, just throw them away.

I put them straight into a bag. No rinsing, no dumping-right from the kid into the bag. 2 reasons: #1: I'm NOT going to clean poop out of a kid's underwear-it's not something I have time for, and it's not sanitary (I'd end up having to sanitize whereever I rinsed it, and I'm not willing to use my sink or even bathtub to rinse poop into it) #2: Poop in underwear (98% of the time) is a sign that a child is not ready for underwear. I'm not going to make it easy for a parent to send a kid to me in underwear-I want them to realize that their kid is not ready. After THEY deal with taking home a bag of poopy underwear once or twice, the kid comes back here in diapers without a fuss from the parents.

I don't have a good place in my home to keep poop in a bag all day without smelling or kids being able to get into it, so I bag it up and toss it immediately. The 2 families I have gone through potty training with haven't had a problem with it.

Well maybe cause I'm old, I remember when moms would flush what would come out easily and then they would swish them around in the toilet and a lot would come out. Then wring them out. All this with gloves on, of course. Then I would bag them and give them to the parents.

Well maybe cause I'm old, I remember when moms would flush what would come out easily and then they would swish them around in the toilet and a lot would come out. Then wring them out. All this with gloves on, of course. Then I would bag them and give them to the parents.

I am a Mom and I have done this with my daughter's cloth diapers and recently with her underwear (she is 2 and has just potty trained within the past week). It's not a big deal as I had been swishing poopy diapers that I got out of the wet bag after work.

However, I'm not the mom of the other kids.

ugh.... I have just dealt with this the last 2 days due to parents trying to train a child before he is ready. I will be having a talk with mom at pick up tonight.

I tried yesterday to just bag them and leave them for pick up but I couldn't do it. I ended up taking them out of the bag and cleaning them. I throw them right in the toilet to rinse as much as I can and then I used a dollar store plastic pail to clean and soak them. I really wanted to send them home poopy - but my conscious wouldn't let me do it.

I do this as well. If it is exceptionally messy I will bag it, set it outside and send the parents a text during nap asking if they would like me to just toss them.

This is about what I do. On a particularly bad one, I have a standing agreement with the parents to toss. They don't want to deal with a bad one either.

I have the policy written too only it's for cloth diapers... with 4 littles and 2 in cloth, NOPE, for sanitary reason i just bag the whole thing and put it in their wet bag. Parents know from the start I don't dump unless they have a disposable diaper liner (neither family does it).
