I have a 4 year old DCK who was potty trained a little over a year ago, and then suddenly wasn't. The child's gastroenterologist just called him lazy, and did nothing. FINALLY, an xray confirmed that the kid had a huge back up of stool inside him. It's only been 3 weeks since they started massive amounts of fiber to clean him out. Parents started trying to potty train as soon as he passed the first large amount of stool.
This kid is NOT ready to potty train. He pees his pants, refuses to poop on the toilet, and gets angry about the whole potty training process. I told DCM to wait until he is "regular" again, and to give his body time to regain muscle control before pushing the potty training. I understand that they're anxious to get it done, but the poor kid just isn't ready.
Anyone have experience with this? How long did it take to potty train after starting treatment? I think waiting 2-3 months for his poor bowels to regain their shape and for him to develop muscle control is a minimum. Am I wrong?
