    Potty-Training at Home Daycare

What are your policies on potty-training in your home daycare?

I say no underwear until the child can go 2 weeks without an accident. It seems like that is pretty typical policy.

How do you handle situations in which parents want to start potty-training earlier than you feel the child is ready?

I am willing to be flexible and helpful but I think this mother is jumping the gun slightly. Maybe if the child wears training pants it would be easier, but it's not so simple to take the child potty when they are wearing a diaper.

    Thoughts?

I just had a GIANT fiasco in regards to toilet training.

Here is my policies. Maybe they'll help your situation.

Of course the parent actually has to read it to follow it....
    .....unlike my DCP..... Grrr!

That's what I have in my policies also, the 2 weeks of success. But I do have to admit that I had 2 3 yo's train in a weekend and when their moms brought them in Monday morning in underwear I must have given them a look. Because both their responses were "I can put pull-ups back on her?" I said no, I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Well, those 2 particular dcks did great! I guess that's the long version; short version would be it depends on how ready they were to be potty-trained. If they're truly ready I don't think it takes them that long.
But if either had had an accident that first day, back into diapers they would have gone.

In my contract I say that the parents need to take time off to start PTing and when the child is successful they can come to my home where I will continue the process. My guess is that anyone who tries to PT a kid who is not ready will learn soon enough that they are not ready and won't be bringing them to me in undies! I just had a mom talk and talk about how her 20 month old, who can barely use a fork, is ready to be potty trained but it was very short lived thankfully!!
