    Yesterday I Took Some DCKs

Yesterday was Saturday and I only am open M-F. Dcm emailed me earlier in the week to ask if I could watch her 2 kids. These are 2 that are both in school now so I won't see them often but they've been THE most challenging kids I've had in a very long time. I mean it...lots of times I'd see red.
I had nothing planned so I'm thinking why not.
It was so much fun seeing them! And not being in the throes of daycare competition, being a lot freer with what we could do, it was great! We went to their school playground and they loved showing off all they could do, walking their nature trail, then we went to the store and bought ice cream, just basically hung out here, played, talked, it was nice.
I wish I could make a living that way instead of abiding by all these rules, regulations and expectations.

That is why I am so happy being legally unlicensed. I try to still abide by most of the rules of being licensed, because many of them are good rules. But some of them are just bunk, but I found when I had foster kids that rules are made because people make people make rules sadly.

I am glad you had a good day and made some extra money!

Unfortunately, we are required to be licensed here. Well we can be unlicensed but only watch one child or two if they are siblings. Can't make a living that way though. In some places it is not an option.

Ahhhh, I spent summers like that 20 years ago when I lived in a state that didn't have licensing back then (or at least I didn't know about it). I would watch school aged children only during the summer with my own school aged children. I loved it! Soooo nice not to have to be bothered by licensing.

YES! And you're still going to be safe, it's not like you're gonna push them out into traffic. You're still gonna have them wash hands and blow noses and wash hands again. Certainly don't want boogers and jelly all over the place! You're going to feed them relatively healthy foods(I had to add the relatively after remembering we had ice cream)
So much of that is common sense. Sad the state feels the need for us to be policed with common sense.

Yeah it wasn't an option when I lived in Kansas. There were two types there one more strict than others and I did both.

I was working in KCMO right by state line when the change happened... people starting turning in MO providers without asking which side of the line they lived in. Ask before assuming that a provider of 4 infants lives in Kansas City, KS. And i was registered because I accepted vouchers - if you pull up my name on the MO registry, I am still listed as having a clear background

Once I was told that we had to be licensed because then authorities had the 'option' to pop in anytime. That way they didn't have to have any reasonable doubt that the children weren't being cared for properly. They can come with just a suspicion or even for no reason. That makes sense to me. At least they can enter the house to check if things just don't seem right where I guess they couldn't otherwise??? Not sure.

Here they didn't seem to do that. We have what are called 'unannounced' visits but they occur regularly every 4 months and we know what month they are coming but not the day. We also have to get relicensed every year and that is one of those visits.

So glad it was a positive, fun, learning day. I'm sure dcm, dck were most thankful!

Every 4 months? Wow! Here in California, they only come check on us once every 3 years unless someone complains. It's amazing how much regulations vary by state.
