What are some of your favorite fall and Halloween related crafts and activities? I have searched and found some neat ones online, but I always like to hear from those who have been there and done that before
Something fun even for the younger crew....but very messy (outdoor activity)...let them all pick a pumpkin and then paint the top of it (or however the want) with a single color of paint. Then while they are still wet sprinkle them all over with glitter. Very cute!
I've hung some branches from out playroom ceiling and we're making fall leaves(different styles of painting) to hang.
For another branch we colored 2 apple shapes, glued on stem and leaves, stapled sides together while stuffing kleenex or paper towels inside.
For our front door I made leaf cut-outs from the middle of construction paper, then they made stained glass pictures from them using shaved crayons. Really pretty!
They painted paper plates yellow, then a circle of bubble wrap black(glued to the middle) for sunflowers, added green stems.
For other windows I'm going to cut out the middle of paper plates, add contact paper and let them decorate it with petals, pine seeds, grasses, leaves and hang them up.
I remember last fall I filled our sensory tub with fall colored ribbons, fake fall leaves, fake acorns, cinnamon sticks, pine cones. They loved it, especially the glittery ribbons.
I'm waiting on families to bring in photos for our family tree(someone's idea I stole from here). One dcf has brought them in so far, pretty good since I just sent the newsletter home yesterday.
Next week we'll be doing pumpkin-ish things. This week it's been leaves and apples. Even that seems way too early with the temps. hovering around 85.
Oh something we've done before was paint their arm brown to make a tree trunk. Then squirt globs of paint over the trunk, cover with wax paper, and let them squish the paint all around. (Shouldn't get messy unless kids are really rough or you put too much paint too close to the edges) Peel off the waxed paper the next day, it leaves a bit of sheen to it. Poof...maple trees.
I love painting pumpkins with kids! You could also paint apples.
Vegetable printing (with paint) is simple and easy enough for pretty much all ages.
When I'm in a room with windows (I work in centers and I've been unfortunate enough to have worked in interior rooms with no windows), I like to make 'stained-glass' leaves with tissue paper and clear contact paper.
Fall scented play dough or cloud dough.
For fall themed sensory bins/tables/tubs, I like beans and dried corn kernels as a base. Then add in fall items such as leaves (real or fake), pumpkins, etc. A lot of people seem to like to add in tractors, but I've used plastic pots (like for plants) along with measuring cups with mine in the past.
For a Halloween sensory bin, one year I dyed some rice black and orange. (Most of it was black) I added in plastic spiders, zombies, and eyeballs. I used a sand sifter with it and measuring cups and spoons. (I always have measuring cups and/or spoons in my sensory tables. It helps me continue to meet the standards for math - measuring for my state's QRIS)
Depending on your group, fall baking may be an option.
I haven't done it yet, but this looks super cute (and simple!) and I'm thinking about doing it with my nephews:
