    Second shift care

For those of you who do or have done second shift care, what was your schedule like? Do you put the kiddos to bed on nap mats? Do parents usually prefer to pick up sleeping kids and wake them up to take them home or do you let them stay up until parents pick them up (not school age kids, obviously)? I'm just getting started and having trouble getting kids, thinking of offering second shift care because we have a lot of factories around that do shift work.

I am restarting myself. I do offer second shift care, but haven't needed to use it yet. I would put the kids to bed and let the parents pick them up when they get off work. The kids will get used to the schedule.

In my state the children must sleep in actual beds if they sleep during second shift care. I'm not sure if it's the same where you are, but might be worth checking on

Also, I would definitely put them to bed at a normal time and wake-up when parents arrive.

When I did second shift I put the kids to bed and the parents picked them up asleep.

I've never done second shift in home daycare but a center I worked at had it. They laid the kids down on cots and parents woke them up when they got there (or just carried them out asleep if they were little).
