    Everything in mouth

I have this dcb who puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. None of my other 2-yr olds do this but him. He also doesn't have the vocabulary that the other do. He still pretty much babbles like a baby does. I have gotten him to where he will say bye bye momma. He will say dada sometimes. If I tell him no he will run off an sit down and cry. I have never had a child act like this. Dad is concerned but mom isn't. Dad has brought it up to me about his limited vocabulary when he has heard the others talk around here. I was honest with him in the fact that I have never cared for a child that at his age only said a handful of words, but that all children develop at different rates. He has been here just under 6 months an I'm not making any progress with everything going from eye, hand to mouth like an infant. I'm talking everything. He will sit an just rub the lid of a toy container for 10-15 minutes after he has tasted it. Could this be that this is just something I hadn't come across yet an is normal for 2-year old an I'm reading too much into it since I hadn't seen it before...... Ummmm

I was taught ten words by 18 months, more by 24. The first ten are just words he says on occasions. If he is 2 and limited vocab, his hearing may need to be checked.
I would reccomend doing a ages and stages evaluation on him.

I would ask the parents to have him evaluated by a speech therapist for sure, and maybe an occupational therapist. Tell them kindly that you think an evaluation would help so that if he needs services, they can start sooner. The earlier the better.
