Need a Quick Answer - Vacation Time

I just found out I will be having family in town in 2 months. They will be staying with us and it's been the first time they've visited in several years. I would really like to take a couple days off to visit with them. Unfortunately, all of "vacation" time is allotted for except for one day. I usually take 10 days off per year (5 paid) plus 10 paid holidays. Do you think I'm asking too much to take one additional day....so 11 days total? These 2 days coming up would be unpaid.

2 months should be plenty of notice, especially if they are unpaid days. If anyone kicks about closing to see relatives you haven't seen in a while with that much warning they're just looking for a reason to complain.

I would think that most parents would be alright with you taking a couple of more days off. You do own your own business. You should be able to tweak things here and there on occasion. I'd tell my parents about your family coming, that they haven't been to visit in years, and that you would like another day or two off and see how they react.

I do have a contract with a list of rules and contracted days and hours, etc. But every once in a while, one of my parents will have something come up and ask me to watch their child late or on a different day. I typically have no problem with helping them out on occasion. Life doesn't know about your contracted arrangements. If I'm willing to bend the contract for them, I would expect the same in return.

I would take it off unpaid. Two months is plenty of notice.
