The Tale of The Barking Dog that lost it's bark!

Once upon a time, there was a daycare provider who had a very easy day. Her one and only daycare child wouldn't arrive until 1p.m., so at 11:40, daycare provider decided to take a quick 20 minute cat nap before DCB arrived.

She didn't bother setting her alarm because her prince charming was home with her, and she had asked him to wake her up at noon. Prince Charming agreed!

Now, the daycare provider and her prince charming, live with two valiant steeds disguised as dogs. One being a regal Great Dane(although they joked that he was "defective" because he barked at everything, including his own shadow and his own farts!) and the other being a 10 month old yellow Labrador puppy.

During her slumber, prince charming decided he was going to run to the market and take their steed disguised as a yellow lab with him. He didn't bother to wake her to let her know he was leaving, since he assumed she had set her alarm to awaken her "just in case"...

Daycare provider wakes up over an hour later to her prince charming standing over her announcing "DCB is here..."

She runs out of her chambers into the sitting room, where DCB and his mother are sitting on the sofa, waiting patiently for her arrival. She checks her cell phone to see 3 missed messages and 2 missed calls from DCM announcing her arrival.

My "defective" dog didn't make one single sound to notify me that she had arrived! He barks EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. when she drops DCB off, and when she comes to pick him up. He also barks at strangers, shadows, the full moon, bicycles, anyone walking down the street, and generally everything else. He even barks at US when we come in the house, even if we've only been outside for a minute...Seriously, this dog barks at EVERYTHING!

And yet today, DCB and DCM were IN my house for a good 10 minutes while I was ASLEEP(I have a great relationship with this DCM so it doesn't bother me at all that she was in here alone ) and this dog didn't make one single peep to let me know someone was IN MY LIVING ROOM!!!! DCM said DCB was even crying when she brought him in the house, and yet not only did I manage to sleep through it, but the dog didn't bark...

What a day! Fortunately for me, DCM was 25 minutes early arriving to my house since she was out shopping before work and it didn't take as long as she had anticipated, so she had a few extra minutes to spare waiting for me. She said she just figured I was outside or something. She saw some lights on in the house, and my car in the driveway, so she knew I was home. So she was just waiting patiently for me in the living room! ::

    Lesson:
1.Don't ever count on your dog as your alarm system
    2. Always set your alarm before napping regardless of your hubby's presence

#3 I'm TERRIBLE about remembering to do. BECAUSE my dog ALWAYS barks when people arrive, and we live in a very safe, residential neighborhood, I kind of got out of the habit of making sure the door is locked. I accidentally left my wallet with over $400 in cash in my car on the drivers seat for a WEEK once while I went on vacation and it was in the same spot when I returned home! :-O I cried. I actually cried because I was so relieved! LOL. HOWEVER, I will definitely be making sure it remains locked, at least while I'm asleep from now on!

Yes, Hubby got a good smack and an ear full. .

We live in a very safe, nice neighborhood too and my hubby left his car unlocked 2 years ago and got ripped off. Those nice neighborhoods are the ones those dang kids like to target and get quick cash out of the cars. Always wish I'd catch one in the act!! So lucky that $400 was still there!happyface

You're definitely right! It's a very false sense of security, and something I need to work on. Maybe that'll be my goal for 2015.. "Never go to bed without locking the door"...Much more attainable than losing 50 pounds! LOL

Hubby has a CCP, so someone would be regretting their decision if they ever tried to break in and he caught them. Although I guess if the front door isn't locked, and the dog isn't going to bark when people come in the house, we wouldn't even know they were here to catch them! *locking front door now*

hahaha! We have a dog that barks at EVERYTHING too! Just like you said, we go to the mailbox and come back and she barks like I'm a crazy robber! Dumb dog haha! I love the mornings when I come downstairs and look out and the garage door is up and the backdoor is unlocked. Yea, my 16 year old forgets sometimes. UGH!
