No thank you for birthday gift

I rarely get a "thank you" too. The only times it seems as though I receive thanks is for Mothers and Fathers day gifts made by the children, and even then it's typically by just one or two (and always the same parents). I wonder if there is a thought that gifts, in general, are just part of the business, like giving them snack. One benefit from not receiving thanks is that I think I'm more appreciative when being a recipient. Hopefully that will be reflected in how my own children, and those I care for, react.- Flag

NO WAY!! Those are excellent for a 2 year old. Some parents are just ungrateful and disrespectful! I think its awesome and I THANK YOU for buying it happyface- Flag

I'm not trying to be snarky, but why should they? My mom never said thank you for my gifts, I always did or wrote thank you notes. I do the same with my kids. I don't expect the parents to thank me if the children do.- Flag

Not trying to be snarky again, but I don't expect thank yous from my clients either. I go above and beyond, as I'm sure most of you do, but I'm getting paid. Do you thank everyone you pay/tip? If not, don't expect a thank you from your families.
I'll never forget one Christmas season, I was shopping for something for a friend who had unique tastes. The store was upscale. I was on my best behavior. I said thank you to the sales lady after she gave me my bag. She said "You don't have to thank me, you just paid me".- Flag

Well, the child is 2yo and barely speaks so in this case it would be expected that the parents would say thank you.
Also, I am getting paid to provide care for their child, not give gifts. Giving gifts is above and beyond that, outside the scope of my job. Do I thank everyone I pay/tip? Yes, yes I do! A thank you is simple manners, common courtesy.
The fact that you think a thank you is not needed is kinda what is wrong with the world these days.- Flag

Fast food person hands me my food, I say thank you. I teach my kids the same. I agree that society is becoming more rude/ expectant and simple niceties are going out the window

Maybe customs are just changing, but I do not like the unappreciativeness of many of my current families.
I go above and beyond what they "pay for" every day.
Funny thing , the ones that I know appreciate me (as a child care provider AND a human being), don't even need to say thank you. It's written all over their faces as they greet me and greet their child. A simple hello and a smile, or once in a while, "how was your weekend?"
The ones who never thank me act as if I do not even exist. They don't even say hello or goodbye or extend any normal human courtesy. It is as if a robot has cared for their child all day. As long as a body is there to take over their child, good enough. As a person, I do not exist. Then give them a "sorry, I can't" and they are online researching regulations to make sure it isn't "just you, making stuff up."
Don't get me wrong. I do not expect to be fawned over. Just a hello as you come in, and maybe a smile tossed in my direction. It would go a long way.- Flag

Yes, I do thank everyone, even if they are getting paid to do their job. I thank my waitress at a restaurant, my kids and I thank the crossing guards on our walk to school, I thank the customer service rep that handles my calls when I pay my bills. I also like to add "have a nice day". Appreciation goes a long way. A thank you and a smile can add joy to a person's day. The world needs more of that.- Flag

Don't you think it's ironic that most parents expect us to teach their children manners (like "thank you"), yet some of those parents can't dole out good manners themselves.
Luckily, the parents I currently have are very appreciative, but I've had some questionable parents in the past.- Flag
