    Maternity Leave

I have a part time daycare family with 2 children going on maternity leave for 8-10 weeks starting in April. Do you all charge half price for those weeks or the regular weekly rate they originally pay? Financially it will be really rough paying my bills if I charge 50%. Also, I don't know for sure if I will even have a spot for the 3rd child at this time. Looking that far ahead is so unpredictable with daycare. Let alone the mother said she may go from pt to ft at work once baby #3 is here so I really don't even know if I need to save them a ft or pt spot.

My husband & I would also like to start trying for baby #2 in about a month or so. That is one less daycare spot. The baby would be due in August/September. I conceived our son the first try so I am thinking baby #2 may be the same or shortly after trying. So another question I have is what if I have room for her 3 children but only until Aug/Sept. She paid me for April-July to keep her spot.

I am getting stressed out over this. I really don't know what to do.

I charge 52 weeks a year for the spot, not attendance!

If they are willing to pay you for holding that 3rd spot, FT or PT shouldn't matter, you're holding it and they should have to pay for it from the day it is open, if it in fact becomes open.

That is wonderful that you had an easy time conceiving last time, however, wait until you know you're pregnant to worry about that one. Stress makes conception harder anyway. Once you have a due date you can better communicate with all of your DCPs about your maternity leave, etc.

Yep, we can only be sure of right now. Wait until you are pregnant to Plan for its spot. Charge her full for maternity, I am shocked they won't use any of your care to get some extra rest.

Yep, I'd charge full for maternity leave and not even worry about the FT spots until she brings it up. If she does need FT in the future, I'd let her know you can't guarantee any FT spots unless the deposit is given and she starts paying for FT right away. I wouldn't hold a spot or make any changes until you get cash in hand- I held a FT spot for a family that had 1 PT boy (1 day a week no less) for over 5 months, just to be told they changed their mind the week before the baby was supposed to start. Will never do that again!
