    Sippy Cups/Straws And Tooth Development

Morning! Can you tell me what the dentist recommends these days as far as sippy cups and tooth development? I've got a little one with a straw type sippy cup, which I hate, for a couple of different reasons. But dcm has been told by her doctor/dentis (can't remember which) that this is preferred to a regular sippy cup because of tooth development. I haven't heard this, but then again my children are in their 20's so it's been awhile since I've had little ones go to the dentist. My state regs don't mention it.

Those things are impossible to clean. I buy a plastic cup and provide a straw for snack times with water. Milk is served in no spill cups.

I do a straw because it works certain muscles that helps kids learn how to speak. Blowing bubbles helps too.

Same here. I have one little guy who is using a straw cup because his lower lip muscle isn't as strong as it should be.

But I think dentists prefer straw over sippy when the liquid is milk or juice - the straw takes the sugary drink past the teeth.

I have heard that same thing about straw sippies. But other than that, I hate them. They are hard to clean and they always splash when there opened.

I have heard the teeth staining, sugar past the teeth thing, too.

I am thinking on it. Ugh.... they are probably right. May have to make a change, myself, soon.
