    I Got Brave

And decided to close the day after Christmas and the day after New Year's this year since they both fall on Fridays and I don't feel like having to do everything that needs to be done after a holiday just for one day. I usually close the day after Thanksgiving so that won't be a surprise to anyone. After 25 years I think I deserve it. I'm tired and need the break! Now to see if I get any flack from the parents.

If it makes you feel any better, I am closed (paid) Dec. 24-Jan. 2. I close paid 16 days per year.

I take the typical holidays off paid, but don't charge when I close otherwise. I'm just not that brave. :: But not being paid for those Fridays is going to be so worth it to me just to have the 4 days off in a row.

I wrote this into my policy about holidays:

We reserve the right to close on any federally recognized holiday. If open, XXX will impose a rate increase for holidays that fall during those hours. If we choose to open, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day we will utilize a rate increase of $50 per day. All other federal holidays shall have a $25 per day rate increase if open. This is in addition to your normal rate you are contractually working and not that for overtime or otherwise. We reserve the right to charge additional fees on the days listed for customers not contractual obligated with XXX.

I also closed the Friday after Christmas, and I put out my schedule back in January - no one has questioned it.

            Yaayyyy......happyface.......
Think about how nice it'll be to sleep in a little....
How much better breakfast and lunch will taste....
Not to mention how much better that first cup of coffee will taste...
How you'll have some "me time"....
Or time to think about how great the passing holiday was...
Time to try on any new outfits that were given as gifts....
Clean out the old items to make room for the new gifts....
Maybe take a nice walk looking at the Christmas lights....
Oh I could go on and on.....anything you want to do with peace of mind from work.
            You deserve it!!!

I usually close the day after Thanksgiving & Christmas. If Dec. 26th & Jan 2 is on a Friday, I imagine you would have almost no one there. So closing won't be a problem to most DCP anyway.

I closed the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve at 12, the day after Christmas and the day after New Years. Last year I only closed the holidays itself. I want more time to spend with just my family. No one said anything about it so far.
