    NCNS and Cancelled Appointments

Why oh WHY do parents think it is okay to not call nor show up to an appointment or cancel last minute? I am just starting my in-home daycare and I am having the hardest time getting clients. The two interviews I had for today both cancelled the same day of the appointment.

I am having the hardest time and becoming really discouraged with this. Everyone wants 11-12 hour days and wants to pay no more then $100 a week.

I am educated in ECE. I have a dedicated playroom/classroom. I am fingerprinted/cpr/first aide certified. I have 7 years experience and have a great balance between learning and hands on play time. Or so I thought I did :/

I don't think it has anything to do with any particular provider, per say....just another sign in society where individuals are selfish!!!!! Good luck to you in filling your slots!

Im so sorry, I know its hard at first. I dont have much advice, but im sure some of the seasoned vets do! Unfortunately, its quite common for parents to value their own time way more than they value yours.

If they want $100 per week give it to them on your terms. It’s hard to give you an accurate example not knowing where you’re located.

Five days a week 9 hours 7-4 is $100 per week
Contracted hours and no drop-offs after 8:00 AM
Late pick up fee $1 per minute per child
        Two week prepaid in advance
        No play, no stay
        No sibling discounts

        7-5 =$140 to $150 per week
        7-6 =$180 to $200 per week
        6-6 =$250 per week

The suggestion is not of my own intellect. Over the months I’ve learned a lot from BC, NannyDe, Heidi, MV and a host of others.

Exactly what I changed my rates to. Ok, you only want to pay $80 a week? Fine, but your child can only be here until 3. Oh, your budget is only $100 a week? Sure! Pick up is no later than 4.

Sad thing is, I had a phone interview with a dc provider who moved here from another town and was starting to work outside the home. She wanted to pay me $75 a week for M-F 7-6. Uh, no. That'll cost you $150 a week. "Oh, but my boyfriend gets off at 3:30 and doesn't want to have to pick her up." <<<< that's what I'm finding it comes down to. They want the cheapest daycare possible for the most hours possible so they don't have to care for their children more than they have to.

Sorry, that interview really spoiled my view on parents.

^^^^ yes! That is exactly what I am encountering. Parents who want their children in care for 11, 12, sometimes 13 hours per day and want to pay no more then $100 per week so they can go to the gym, target, etc. after work. I have no problem what a parent does while their child is in my care. As a provider, the way I see it is if you are paying for that time you can do whatever with it. As a parent myself (who worked in a preschool for 7 years prior to having a child) I feel differently. I taught students who would attend an all day preschool and then go home to a nanny...but I digress

BUT there is no way in heck I will care for a child for that long each day for that little while still providing food, AC, water, and all the other necessities that are increased when doing in home childcare.

I have lurked here for a while, and I have to say, you ladies are hands down awesome. I have learned so much reading everyone's posts.

On a side note, I am in the Phoenix area. From what I have seen care prices vary a great deal.
