My house has no pets, no smoke... minimal allergens. I clean up enough after regular daycare stuff without having to deal with more allergens and mess - you making my entryway smell like smoke? Nope, goodbye.

      Oh heck no...

I not only have a policy concerning smoking, but I am a Fragrance free childcare. It not only affects me, but it could also harm one of the babies I care for. Smoking is also illegal here when a minor is the car. I didn't sign on one family just because dad refused to not wear cologne in my home. Here's my policy. Feel free to give ideas on making it sound better.

WE ARE A FRAGRANCE FREE CHILDCARE HOME. I stay fragrance free in this house with the exception of food smells and my natural disinfectants (Benefect and Thieves oil) - this means no smelly candles, fragranced plug ins or scented laundry soap are used at anytime.

Due to certain fragrances being worn by parents and visitors that can cause adverse reactions to me and some of the babies I care for, I request that you not wear perfume/cologne, aftershave, scented hand lotion, fragranced hair products, and like items while in my home; I also ask that you use unscented laundry detergent for the same reason (AXE, floral perfumes and fragranced Gain detergent are some of worst scent offenders because they give me severe migraines and can lead to an asthma attack). This year is also a bad year for pollen and as such anything we can do to keep from making the situation worse for all of us is a good thing.

Well, I no longer have to worry about being able to breathe around them. The father just came in and said they are having problems and have to move immediately. He said this is unexpected and he doesn't have the money for it, etc. So today will be the child's last day.

Weird. But...at least it's not a problem anymore? Makes you wonder...

My area is a low income area. I've actually had numerous parents come in throughout the past couple of years and announce that they simply can't afford daycare so they found a friend or family member to watch the child for free. For a while I thought that it was something about me or my daycare that made people leave my daycare. But then I worked at a daycare center for 8 months and found out that about 2/3 of their clients were 2 months behind in paying for daycare! For the life of me, I don't know why the parents were allowed to continue bringing their children to the center while they were so far behind in paying. So as far as my daycare dad telling me they have to move and have no money, I believe it. It's just ironic that it happened right after I posted this.

Childminder I found out the hard way about AXE & Gain (very allergic)

I look at it this way; many workplaces now have a fragrance free policy because so many people get ill from their co-workers perfumes and such; because we are running our own businesses, are we not allowed to set the same policies that some offices, hospitals and other work places have?

And yet, they can afford the cigarettes... Gotta love people's priorities.
