    Mosiac Stepping Stones

I want to do these with the dcks for their dads. I've been searching online for ideas and pictures, have found plenty. Has anyone done these before? Any hints to make it no-fail? Any cool ideas?
I've also toyed with the idea of making a pathway in our backyard and have the kids make some for that.
    Thanks!!

Great idea for daddy gifts! I'll be watching this one, because I am not sure how to really make these work either.

I LOVE the idea of having the kids do these and incorporating them into your playscape somehow.

They are very involved - so if you do it, just be prepared! I'm pretty crafty but mosiac's are an epic fail with me.

My advice would be to make sure you put a layer of chicken wire in the middle, that way it wont break. first layer would be pretty rocks colored glass, what ever, then cement, chicken wire then another layer of cement...Thats how I've done them and they turn out great!

oh wow I didn't know they were so difficult. You make them with quick cement right? I know you have to let them sit for quite a few days and spray them with cement sealer. Some directions said to put the stones, etc. in first, place cement on top, others said to pour cement first, then place items on top.
What if I found a smallish mold to use, would they be as apt to break?

I used disposable aluminum pie pans. Arranged stones etc and poured in the quick cement mix. Some of the decorations sort of disappeared - the arrangement shifted slightly when I poured the cement in. But they came out smooth enough to walk on and thin enough not to crack. They've made it through one north east winter just fine! And there were cool patterns from the pie pans too.
