Preparing a child for kindergarten/Interesting Videos

Taking a class last night and learned something interesting things about what kindergarten teachers are now wanting kids to know before coming to Kindergarten.

Ten things to prepare for Kindergarten

    1. Two step direction
    2. Taking turns & cooperating
    3. POTTY TRAINED
    4. Know Letter/Numbers
    5. Handle Seperation anxiety
    6. Be comfortable around other adults & children
    7. Make simple decisions
    8. Handle rountines
    9. Do things for self
    10. EAT LUNCH W/OUT HELP

A kindergarten teacher also told me that if kids could write there names in Capital and lower case letters that would safe teachers so much time. Kids need to come in ready for first grade not kindergarten. Simply standing in line, sharing, doing basic stuff doesn't help anymore as the teachers have so much more to teach now in kindergarten that the more the kids know the better it is for the teachers.

In Order to be Ready to Learn Children Need to:

    1. Feel good about themselves
    2. Know how to get along with others
    3. How to talk WITH-NOT AT others
    4. How to listen when others talk

Sadly, just what it means-being able to go the the bathroom and use it by yourself at this age.

I actually have a daycare mama that teaches kindergarten and each year more and more kiddos showing up in pull-ups, coming in underwear but going in their pants daily, pulling pants down on play ground to go, cleaning up poopy 5 and 6 year olds, etc.

        My son is in Kindergarten.
Kindergarten is the not the same from my last child, (9 yrs ago). Meaning.....no more open-ended play, more structure based curriculum, that
1st graders would be doing. My son has homework every week. Homework that the parent MUST sit down to help with. He is now learning site words, to read.....in Kindergarten!
And we wonder why the kids are in such a rush to get older!?
