    Hold Spot Fee

A DC center is closing in our area June 6. We have had families call about our place, but want to stay there until then. We are fine with that bc we have some things we want to work on before a bunch of new kids start.

We're debating on having a "hold spot fee" or just an "enrollment fee". The "hold spot fee" would be extra money, non-returnable, but we're not sure what amount. The "enrollment fee" would be their last week's (or possible 2 weeks) tuition, which wouldn't be extra money in our pocket.

Which would you do? If it was just a "hold spot fee", how much would you charge? Keep in mind, they wouldn't be starting for 10 weeks and we have limited spots.

If a space is open for use, I bill in FULL.

Not MY problem that they don't want to use the space.

I financially need to have all my spaces paid for.

I bill according to enrollment NOT actual attendance so even if someone isn't using their space they still have to pay for it if they want it. kwim?

We have several open spots, so I could see them just waiting and not paying anything in advance to save them money. At least that's what I would do as a parent. But then again if they want to for sure go here and not somewhere else then they should pay something to ensure they get a spot.

I've done a "HOLD SPOT" fee twice before. I charge $40 per week to hold the spot which is about 15% of our weekly tuition. It worked well for us. I think if the laws of supply and demand work in your favor you could charge both fee's you were mentioning.
