We originally put the chains on the doors when we moved my ds's room away from ours(in case he became a sleep walker and we didn't know) but, they work great for this as well. You never know when you can have a runner on your hands!::
we can't keep chains on the doors where I live due to fire laws, the children must be able to open the door with ease and not allow any other devises to prohibit them from getting out.

BUT I am being more mindful of keeping the door locked most of the day.
I'm glad that she wasn't wandering around your home!
But the fact she was able to give something to a dck without you knowing/seeing would be a huge no-no in my state. Had she been ticked off about that and called licensing, I would be cited for a major violation
Is there anyway you can leave yourself a post it note or something in a good spot so you will remember to lock the door?

Same where I live. I have motion sensors & all my parents love them. The kids think it's the parent alarm. If the front one goes off they try to decide which parent it is, . even the babies look at the door when it goes off!
