    CL Yet Again

    http://tulsa.craigslist.org/kid/4338413568.html

So a few things about this ad made me cringe.

    1. She wants some one to work ALL WEEKEND for about $2/hour.

    2. She played the "single mom" card

    3. She states that she is "on a tight budget" yet her son is in baseball, basketball, AND katate?

    Seriously?

I don't think it's unreasonable. I wouldn't do it, because I'm not willing to give up my weekends... However, I don't feel it's that out of line for 3 days. It may be kinda fun for college kid or a mom with similar age kids.

The tight budget thing doesn't bother me either. If karate, baseball, etc are in her budget and she's budgeted $75 for his care = no problem with that.

Uhhh...Even in high school i would definitely not work for such a little amount of money. I have always turned work down if the people weren't will to pay minimum wage.

Unless she pays a flat rate/salary, if that where for a baby sitter paying less than minimum wage would be illegal (at least in my state); I heard that some places are even coming up with laws where babysitters will need a 15 minute relief (substitute provider for a break) every 2 hours and a 1/2 relief every 4 hours for lunch. Lol, I bet a lot of parents who use babysitters are going to be mad about the $10 minimum wage rise... especially if they also have to pay a sub to show up every 2 hours.

And trust me, I was in a situation similar to the situation the mom is describing (minus all the extra curricular activities; but several days a week) and who ever does take this job will most likely wind up burned out and quitting.

No way would this fly around here and I am in a college town. It might work IF she hired a SAHM and the boy went to someone elses house and was not doing all those sports. She is needing a nanny and she would have to pay for it around here, at least minimum wage but more than likely $10 to $15 an hour. Those early mornings and long days every weekend? no one is going to want to do that.

A babysitter is not an employee. Babysitters are exempt from federal minimum wage laws.

Can you post a link showing where you found that information?

As far as state minimum wage laws, from what I understand, CA Bill AB 889-domestic work employees... still classifies babysitters (under age 18) and adults who provide care but are exempt from licensing laws are exempt from the minimum wage requirements.

When I was in college in the early 90s I was already making $5-6/hr babysitting for date nights etc.

I think I have it beat! I was browsing craigslist, just came across this ad and had to share it!

                    Title: Nanny/babysitter/ daycare NEEDED ASAP!!
                    (google map)
Seeking full time care for a 4 year old boy. Hours Monday through friday 6AM to 6:30PM. Would like caretaker to be located in the ****** area or if you are willing to transport then we are located in the ******* area. Needing reliable, stable care. Can afford a pay range between 60 and 100 for drop off care and 85-115 if you transport. please call or text ************ Thanks!

This part of town is extremely expensive!!! Weekly care ranged from $250-$325 a week and no transportation. I get she can't afford that, I couldn't afford that!!! But that's just a slap in the face. That wouldn't even be enough to pay for the child to eat. So the provider would basically be paying for the child to stay in their care.

Wow! Does she mean she could pay that price per week? I would reply and tell her you would be willing to take her up on her offer and watch the child for $60 to $100/day.

Sorry, no way! My dd makes $10/hr babysitting.

How much do you want to bet she also works M-F and never sees the kid.
