If you just want green that you can't kill, bamboo is great. Lives in rocks and water, not even dirt. plant in a clear container with some rocks, fill it up with water, and voila. I say clear because you can see the water level that way, just dont' let it get completely dry.

I have pots of ivy all around my house, I keep them up on the counters and shelves though so the kids can't get into them. They look nice though!

Plastic. The realistic look and ability to go long periods without water are the biggest selling points for me! I love plants too...but they do't love me....so I go plastic!! Some of them, you really can't tell they aren't real unless you touch them. ::

I hope this link works. It's TWO pages long in PDF format on Toxic, Caution, and Non-Toxic plants for children. This came off the North Dakota Child Care Resource and Referral site. It even tells you what is safe or not for cats, dogs, birds, or other animals.

Bamboo is not on this list, but I think it's a good idea. You can buy them already in containers at most grocery store flower sections for under $10 each. Hanging a small plant in the corner of a room always looks nice too because you have greenery inside, but out of reach.

                Thanks

I am a parent of two in daycare and wanted to get a plant for each classroom for teacher appreciation week. I just wanted to thank the person who sent the list of safe plants. This makes me feel more comfortable getting a safe plants to beautify their classrooms.
