    SA Rate Question

I was wondering what people do for rates on school age children? Do you have a before and after school rate and then a different rate for when they are there all day? A flat weekly rate regardless of when/how often they are there?

    Thanks.

I have a flat weekly rate based on them being here only before school and after school. If they need care on a snow day or in-service or whatever, then they pay the full-time rate for that day.

I charge $7/hr and figure out their weekly hours needed and bill them accordingly. The SA boy I have now is here about 2.5hrs a day so they pay $95/wk.

I don't have any now but that is how I did it too.

Flat weekly rate based on before/after school and an additional daily charge for no school days.

Same here - a flat fee per week and then the drop in per day price if they need full day care .

I charge $45 per week for a schoolager. If no school, add $10 per day.

So even if they are there every day in the summer you charge your regular full time rate?

I just can't get my head around the idea that someone would pay the same price for their 1 year old as their soon-to-be 8 year old!

My situation is I have a family with 3 kids. Ages 18 months, 5, and 7. The 18 month old is here all day M-F. The 5 year old is here before and after school Monday, all day T/TH/F and then only before school Wednesday. The 7 year old is only here before on Monday and Wednesday and then before and after T/TH/F. This summer they all will be here all day M-F.

The 7-year-old is one of my daughters best friends so I have a hard time charging her parents the same rate that I do for her sister that's 18 months.

I have never had a school ager who was here all day before but I guess if this is what everyone else does then I guess I shouldn't stress about it?!

sometimes the SA can be more work than an infant. The idea is that you're actually having them pay for the spot, not necessarily the work involved. Why take a 7 yr old for half the pay when you can fill that spot with a younger child for more pay? I charge per position, not per age.

This is how I work SA-

They pay a flat rate for before and after school, up to 5 hours of care ($87.50 for me)

If there is a two hour delay or half day of school, they pay an additional $10

If there is no school, it's an additional $17.50 (this is equal to their regular daily rate)

over breaks or summer, they pay for a full time spot (175) regardless of attendance just like everyone else.

I actually find SA way more work than littles. I charge the same as I do for my other kids, although I do NOT allow SA to pay PT rates since I only have 2 SA spaces.

If you've never had a SA there all day, then YES there is a REASON we charge for this.

They don't nap. They eat more. They use more supplies. They expect more. They're loud. They're always bored. Regardless of the friend situation with your dd, you need to charge your regular rates.

Yes! They're by far more work IMO as well!! The SA guy I have now is best friends with my DS as well but be takes up an entire space at my DC and this will be his last year here. I was lucky to find an infant who's dad picks up before school gets out so they technically share a spot now! So for that one spot I'm getting $180 & $95/wk. The other FT spot I have is $200/wk so really it's working out great for them to share the spot! LOL

I found that SA are wayyyyy more work then the younger ones while they were here over Christmas break! I find myself daily telling my dd that her and her friend are harder to take care of then the 1 year old! I don't know how many times I've heard "I'm not your friend anymore!" while on break.

The bad thing is I live in a small town with lots of licensed and unlicensed daycares and they all charge a very small fee for SA care. I'm talking like $5 a day even for all day care!!!
