    I Can Be Mean...

So the schools are closed due to nasty weather (whiteout conditions, wind chill, snow, etc). Already my other families (including the new one! ) were canceling for tomorrow without my saying anything. happyface

But of course my problem family did not cancel. I know for a fact dcm isn't working tomorrow because all the area schools are closed. So. I made the decision to close. I felt bad doing it for the second time this year already but then again this dcm won't make the safe decision for her children anyway....she was the one who sent her sick baby here and hoped I wouldn't notice because she didn't want to use paid time off but then uses it to "get stuff done at home" while the kids are at daycare. So of course she texts me and asks if she has to pay for the closure. In the past I would've caved and said no but this time I stuck to my policy and said yep this is a paid closure. It's not like we close that often due to weather around here anyway. Heck I was open last week when we had -40 wind chills. But this stuff is just nasty...people are going in the ditch. We had a 10 car pileup. The police are advising people to stay home. Someone had to make a decision. I just feel bad charging for the day...but then again I'd be more willing to cut her a break if she followed my policies without me constantly putting her back in place. That just sounds terrible of me...

You done good. I have been in the same boat, but don't feel bad about your decision, if you give in once, you will be expected to give in in the future. happyface

Definitely. I learned that from previous businesses. You need to stick with your rules or you're asking for trouble in the future.
Children are little angels, even when they are little devils.
      They are also our future.

I'm in the same boat sort of. Thinking of closing tho, haven't done it yet. Not sure when the plows are allowed back on the roads or when the blizzard will end. I only have 1 little one that is coming tomorrow and the roads they have to take to get here a drift covered. Not sure they will be cleared by morning. I hope they make the decision to keep little one home, but I doubt it as dcm just took a vacation day to hang with friends on Friday. I sure as heck wouldn't be going to work unless I was an emergency person.

I've learned that some parents simply won't do the right thing for their kids when there is money involved....I am almost certain this dcm didn't cancel due to the weather because last time her work closed for the weather and she canceled I still charged for that day because I can't control weather changes. Besides...I could see her using weather as an excuse to cancel every time she didn't want to pay for a day....if that makes sense....because she gets charged if she cancels for any other reason.

So this time I think she thought that if I closed due to weather then she'd get a refund. It didn't help that dh said I was being mean at first and should offer her a refund...especially since she had to pay for almost a whole week her kids weren't here due to the flu...
