    The Waiting Game

...how long will the texts/calls about a sick dcb be ignored? Usually i get responses from this dcm within minutes. Almost 45 minutes later, and not a peep.

I can't even remember the last time I sent a kid home sick. but a 101.3 fever is not to be ignored...

just tried calling her and of COURSE her phone is off right now. Hmmm....

Well that if frustrating! My families have 30 minutes from my call to pick up and then it's a steep late fee. Never had to use it thankfully.

Hope she checks in very soon!

I call twice, text once. If no response in five minutes, I go down he contacts list. They have to be picked up within one hour. And I do that because my parents work far away. If not picked up within one hour I charge a fee.

I'm juuuuust about to that point C2C.

Unfortuantely when Gma (dad's mom) picked the older boy up for preschool, I mentioned that dcb wasn't feeling well and she said, "Yeah, i know," and left quickly.

          HMMM.

(They were with dad last night, not mom) This tells me that gma and possibly dad know FULL WELL that he's sick. If I end up having to call dad for pickup (which it looks like I will) I'm SO gonna charge....what should I charge? My contract has $10/hr sick child care if no pik up within one hour, but that's it.

I would definitely charge at least $10/hr. I would be sure to tell him that is what you are charging & he will need cash in hand TONIGHT! I'd be calling backups pronto & if someone else picks up let the DCPs know child can't attend until the "sick care" fees are paid. Sorry you have to deal w/this!

This is the stuff I will never get. Your child is sick and needs you! Get the heck there and let you know! I always immediately dropped what I was doing at work to pick up when this happened!

I'd call all other contacts and then I may call mom or dad at work. I'd let them know the $10/hr is building fast and remind them that bringing a sick child or refusing to pick them up is grounds for IMMEDIATE termination, with no refunds.

If I send home a child that arrived here sick, I require they remain home for 72 Hours before they can come back, regardless if they are well the next day.

If you know the main number for her work I'd call it and have her paged.

2 hours after initial text he was picked up. Sigh.

Mom is out of town (I didn't know that, though I knew she was off work), so that's why she wasn't in contact range. Would have been nice to know.

Dad sent gma back to get him. They are blaming the 101.3 fever on "teething" and BOTH admitted that they knew he had a fever this morning before dropping him off.

I reminded mom about the 24-hour fever free rule, and she said she'd tell dad. Apaprently they were going to go home with gma/dad tonight and no one told me. Gotta love that.

I couldn't (Didn't?) send dcb home with gma in the first place because of a combination of shock (you KNEW he was sick?), misinformation (mom out of town), and language barrier (gma's first language is french). And, they don't think he needs excluded. It's "teething".
