How Are You All Handling The Absence Of Gov't Furloughed Kids?

Especially if it goes on for a long time?

I have 3 kids who will be in this situation, a FT, a PT, and an afterschooler.

I have families on the state assistance program (but that program won't be affected as of now) and have no families that work in sectors effected by this....thank goodness.

I'm sorry that this is affecting you/your daycare kids....hopefully they will figure this mess out quickly.

I don't charge for the furlough days, provided they bring proof.

I just let my families know I still expect their tuition on Friday's for their contracted amount.

I haven't had any parents be affected by this, (they have secure jobs) but a provider across the street has two kids that are affected.

No one was sure yet how the cookie would crumble, my parents just found out their jobs have already been funded.

IMO govt employees know they can be furloughed and should plan for such.
I really hope everything works out for you!

I have been crazy busy and full so if they take some time off I am fine with that. All 3 kids are from the same family. Just trying to figure out how to handle it. Maybe I will just tell them no charge for the first month and anything beyond that regular charge.

Living on a military base, this is the second time this had happened. We are asked (not told) by higher ups to give furlough kids a break. The Local dc does do a lower rate. Sadly, the first time it happened, it hurt our providers and I sense no one will adjust. I use a lower rate so I don't feel obligated to in these situations.

My mom is an essential employee and has to work without pay now. I hope my sister's before and after school program understand. She just lost all her savings to a boyfriend who decided to go back to his ex wife and take her savings with him.

How can they possibly make people work without pay? Some people might have to pay daycare and would thus be not only not getting paid but actually paying so they could work! No way no how!

In the past, payhas been retroactive for those who DID work.

I don't give anyone a break. I don't have the "security" of a government job with built in health, retirement, etc.
