What Do You Do...

If you have a napper (non infant) that does not fall asleep? Just curious. Do you require them to lay down quietly through out the given nap time or do you let them get up?

I require that all children observe nap time. I cannot force a child to sleep but they are required to be quiet and "rest". If I have an infant that wakes earlier (under 2 years) I will get them up and keep them occupied quietly, but children over 2 years have to stay on their cot for the full rest period.

I usually leave them on their cot through the entire naptime, only so they don't wake the other children. But, I give them a stack of books or puzzles to use quietly while on their cot (after they have rested for a little bit first, just to make sure they are definitely not going to sleep that day).

Exactly this. Although, after about 50 minutes they are all asleep.

I say rest time. ALL kids are required to rest for the duration of said rest time.

If they actually sleep...great! If not, oh well...just rest quietly so those around you can sleep if they choose.

This ! Only I do it for children over 1.

My state regs. state any child unable to fall asleep after a 1/2 hour must be allowed to get up and provider must find something for this child to do! Ugh!

My step-grandson goes to a large group center and NEVER sleeps. They let him get up and go into another room to play.He is 18 mo. old and is a wreck by late afternoon......somehow this regulation needs to be changed. Say like 3 yrs and up at least. He takes a a.m. & p.m. nap on the weekend because he is so exhausted!

I have a child who will be 3 in Dec. that takes 45 min. to go to sleep. Her mom absolutely wants her to sleep and to not get up after 1/2 hour. She gets nasty if she doesn't get some sleep!

The only child who I have that does not nap is five. She has quiet book time for 15 min and then gets up and colors, plays with small dolls, a magnet game, etc. if I had a 4 yr old who was not a napper I would do the same thing. Heaven help me if a three yr old begins to be a non napper!

My state law is completely opposite, every child must remain resting for 2 hours no exception. They can read books or similar but have to stay quite and laying down so everyone gets the chance to sleep without interruption. all of my children always fall asleep after about 45 min of laying down even during the summer by sa's fall asleep. It majes it for a very rest full and grouch free afternoon.
