    Power

Do you close if your daycare is without power? Power went out yesterday at 4 and won't be back on until tomorrow evening.

Legally I can not be open without running water (I'm on a well) or heat (in colder months) so if it was a prolonged outage (and my generator was not working) I would have to close.

Utah regs say we must close if we don't have power.

Me too. We had an outage about a month ago. I kept calling for updates as I allow about three hrs and then I start calling but they kept pushing the time. I sent out notice for pick up. I cannot have babies and children here without a way to feed them, cool/heat or have toilets!

Per regs I'd be closed, but even if it weren't against the rules I'd close.

My lic. rep said that I could stay open without power as long as there was enough natural light for safe movement and play and I could still feed the kids. I live in the city though so we have water even without power. I would check with your rep. Personally I would not open if I knew power was going to be out all day - a few hours yes, all day no. I am a wimp I guess!

I also can't provide care without water or heat. Not sure of it stars electric. So that would be the first concern-
If you know your house will be comfortable then if your ok with it I don't see why not. Maybe shorten the hours so it is only when it is light out? I have a gas stove so that wouldn't be an issue or I would plan for no cook foods

If its ok with licensing then I would base it on if your ok doing it or not

We do have water, with enough sun light to keep the house bright. Power has always been restored quickly, the company didn't have an estimate of restoration until a little bit ago. I took kids today thinking it would be back on.....

We had a major storm and power outage last year and I planned on having my kids if the power didn't come back on. I figured they didn't have it at home either. I had shelf stable milk and food that did not need to be refrigerated or heated. I still had running water and it was summer. Fortunately, our power came back Sunday night. Most of my kids didn't have power at home so they were very happy to be here with air conditioning!
If you can cover food and they are comfortable, it would depend on the circumstances.

I close whenever power is out. The main room is an interior room in basement that needs light and I don't want to spoil food any faster by opening/closing fridge. Plus we need the heat at least half the year.
