I have a Chocolate Lab & he is outside. All parents are aware of him being around the children PRIOR to even coming for a visit. I rarely have hair inside, but the kids hang all over him outside. Does anybody have any new snappy comebacks for the few parents who make note of the dog hair? I use to say, "Dogs with hair..., who knew?" (These parents notice dirt on their children when they play outside too.) please & thank you!!!!

I'd have a hard time NOT just saying something to these parents. As soon as they mentioned or commented on the dog hair, I would say "Is that a problem?"
Passive-aggressive comments are probably my BIGGEST pet peeve.
Ask them outright if it's an issue.... and put a stop to their comments before resentment builds. It's hard to go back once resentment creeps into the relationship.- Flag

Awwww, I love labs! We have a yellow lab and he is inside a majority of the time and leaves his hair everywhere! I sweep and/or vacuum multiple times a day, but it seems to be a never ending battle to keep it kept up! I do stress at interviews that we have a dog and there will be hair. So far I haven't had a problem as all my families want to get a dog now that they have met mine or have dogs. I would like to see what others say in response to your thread though, just in case someone does say something!- Flag

My dog doesn't shed but I do! That's what I tell them at the interview. I've only had one family act 'cold' about my dog. They don't allow their dog inside. Different lifestyle. Different priorities. My dog is my family and the only one of my kids I got to pick out. Their opinions don't matter.
For the record, I love that the kids get to play w a big cuddly dog at your place. If only every human had the luxury of a dogs love.- Flag

My handbook tells parents that I have two large house dogs with long hair. I let parents know at the interview that these dogs have the run of the house outside of daycare hours. Their children MAY come into contact with them during the day as I let them out to eliminate a few times a day during daycare hours (they spend the day with my sleeping husband who works nights).
These dogs drop their coats spring and fall and the house is covered in hair during that time, I do my best to minimize (daily brushing, vacuuming at least once per day), but hair is unavoidable during these periods. I tell them that if dog hair is an issue, this is not the daycare for them.
If a parent complained to me about it (never has happened), I'd let them know that their handbook that they signed included an acknowledgement of the situation and that they agreed it was not a problem.- Flag

...as if kids don't leave a trace of themselves everywhere they go
