Bartering DC For Hair Styling Services

I have bartered with dc parents before and it has always worked out great. We even bought a car from one family and I paid for it in dc. So tonight I am bartering with a dcmom for her to do my hair. She'll color and cut it. I will take the value of the service off her bill.

What about a tip though? Should I give her a tip tonight? Tell her about it but take it off her bill too??

I used to have this arrangement with a DCM too and what I did was provide the tip in cash. If she choose to give it back for daycare credit, that is up to her but I felt better tipping in cash.

      Bartering is great!

We've had a dad do carpentry work for us and my daughter's graduation pics were done by one of my professional photographer moms.

I wish I could do it more!

I would so barter for haircuts! I got mine done a while back because it was so long and I wanted to dye it and it got butchered! I can't even wear it down because it doesn't lay right(I know I should speak up but, want to just move on!) I will now be paying the normal going rate for a haircut to fix it!! I wish more of my parents had professions I could barter for!

You are so lucky! I would love to barter childcare services for hair service! My families all work for companies and wouldn't be able to barter services. I have, however, given one family a free week of care because they gave me tons of clothes that their son wore, for my son and most were name brand. They said I could just have them, but I'm the type that feels like I should do something to "pay" people back or I feel guilty.

I agree with pp. I would just pay the tip in cash and then she can decide what she wants to do with it.

I get my nails done by a dcm and we deduct the cost off of her services from my services for the upcoming week. I tip her in cash. It's been 6 months, my nails look amazing, and she gets discounted daycare (that she otherwise could not afford)

But what if that parent does not do your hair, nails, etc.. to your satisfaction? Do you say something or would it be awkward? I know most parents would probably say something to us if they weren't satisfied with us. Just a thought.

I barter with a family for lawn care service, but we exchange money. I wouldn't normally use this service but it provides our family a perk. And he gets discounted childcare. Once he no longer needs childcare we will no longer get lawncare service. I know it doesn't seem like bartering but we are exchanging services. It just makes it easier to "keep it on the books" this way.
