My 2.5 yr old DS (and I say "Dear" through my very tightly clenched teeth right now) is such a struggle lately. He seems to be constantly looking to battle it out with his sister (4) or other DCKs. I know he's at a tough age where sharing is difficult and other fun stuff like that. He just gets so mean sometimes.
I give him chances to be out of the daycare area when he seems to be having a tough time, but then he just stands at the gate screaming to get back in. This morning, we were outside, he was playing on his tricycle, and saw DCG start walking over towards the cozy coupe, so he jumps off of his tricycle, nearly falling flat on his face, and racing over to the cozy coupe (which was across the driveway), and starts banging against the car (DCG is already in it at this point), pulling on her shirt, screaming and stomping his feet around like a mad man. This is what happens whenever he decides he has to have something that somebody else has, which is way too many times for me to keep track of throughout the day.
I have tried time-outs (or calling it "a break" or "calm down spot", he just sits there and cries and stomps and yells and goes back and does whatever it was he got put in there for in the first place, again. I try to be calm, get down on his level, have him look at me while I explain that he may have a turn when so-and-so is done. I have him use his words, "Can I please play with that after you?" If he's not super freaking out about the situation, then sometimes just him asking that works, other times he asks it and then starts throwing another tantrum that he doesn't have whatever it is in his hands immediately.
He even has gone as far as, while I'm crouched down in front of him, talking to him in a calm voice, or even just repeating his name over and over again while I'm waiting for him to calm down, he has hit me or kicked me.
He's a very good talker, so I don't think it's a communication issue. He seems to be able to communicate VERY well what he wants, haha.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciative. Please.
ETA: He's in a "break" out of the daycare right now, because he tried racing to the bathroom for washing hands after lunch and ended up trying to pull DCG off the stool because he wanted to be first.
