I have another one who's mom buys lucky charms. Only dcb doesn't like the oat cereal so she buys captain crunch then pours a bowl of the crunch and PICKS out the lucky charms and puts them in the crunch. Then offers it with a bottle of iced tea. I want to add he is three. When you offer him the cereal he only eats the lucky charms. Shhhh...... I pick the charms bk out and make him eat the cereal then dump the bottle and give him milk in a cup. He has enough issues without all the sugar! Beats the Oreos he had every morning so she could get him in the car!- Flag

I've had them come in with cookies and donuts before. Usually with apple juice to wash it down with. They go in the trash can. Sorry, buddy! We have severe allergies here and those aren't allowed!- Flag

Makes you wonder what's happened the last couple of generations. Parents today have the hardest time using the word NO. Theyd have been laughed outta the park for being such coddling marshmallows if they gave in the same way back then.....and for good reason.
Makes me wonder what the effect of all that sugar and crap is going to do to future generations- Flag

On the other hand, we hardly had "goodies" unless they were home-baked or if we rode our bikes or walked 2 miles to the store.- Flag

Doesn't Lakeshore sell materials FOR DAYCARE? Are they serious? The responses were shocking but hilarious. Only thing I'd add would be that most daycare parents would definitely say yes to the cookie and then would blame them staying up too late that night on a too-long nap at daycare the next morning.- Flag

the worst junk food family I have.....DCM is a nurse!
My sister works in a clinic and says all the nurses she works with have horrendous eating habits. She says a lot of those grown women bring the kids Lunchables and such for their lunch LOL- Flag

Ya know what? I just participated in a child care focus group this morning on nutrition and I brought up the issues that I've faced in my own daycare and the lady heading it up was horrified. :: I'm glad REALITY will be in their study.

OT I laughed when you wrote that Heidi. My daughter is doing an exchange in highschool to Germany and the teacher was saying how everyone eats breakfast together at the table. A real breakfast. I giggled. The way my daughter is slow moving my poor exchange student will be lucky to get a cold pop tart running to catch the bus! Lol::
Sorry to hijack.....- Flag

I don't have a problem with kids getting things that appeal to their tastebuds, but when it creates kwa (kids with attitude) who won't eat anything but, then its a problem.
I grew up in poverty but never knew it (my mom was great like that - love you mom). We ate what my parents ate, no problem and no questions. Raisin bran or oatmeal for breakfast- milk or water to drink, and my mom made cookies for afterschool. The problem now days is that we WASTE our money on snacks and cookies and have it available for children in the home. Lunch and dinner was usually a stew of sorts, meatballs, or beef stroganoff. I've debated serving the food I grew up on and see how the kids take it.
Food is food, meant to fill you and give you nutrition. I would have starved if I was half as picky as these kids now days.
Sadly, most parents pick the snacks specifically to appease their children and avoid tantrums and "tough" mornings and nights (ok ok, I admit to doing this).- Flag

My nurse Mom's are the worst about nutrition as well. I have three of them now, have had many in the past, and not only are (were) every one of them overweight, as were their children, but they had the most awful feeding/eating habits. It is baffling!
That being said, I make very nutritious meals here and the kids ALL love the food I make. They frequently say "I wish my mom would make this" Then the parents say, "I wish she'd eat like that for me"....to which I'd like to reply "They would if you'd make it for them!"- Flag
