Do You Use Stamps/Ink Pads In Your Art Supplies?

Looking for some feedback....what do you have and how popular is it with the kids?

I bought some melissa and doug and the kids are really not into it. Its a good assortment of stamps and colored ink pads and it just doesnt get used or keep their attention for long.

Mine like to do fingerprint art w/ the stamp pads. Our dcgs especially love the stamps but our dcbs seem to like stickers better.

since I teach preschool we use them A LOT!!!

with math I take a piece of paper and draw lines on it to create squares...

so if it halloween, we will use halloween ones...

I then place a number in each box... the children have to stamp the corresponding amount of stamps in that box and so on.... They love it

we also play a card game where I get a stack of cards with pictures. I have two sets of stamps- full alphabet both lower and upper case.

I put the full set out and then I will pass you a picture card. The child then has to find the letter that starts with that word and stamp it on their paper.

Each child gets a different card. When they are done they say card and I give them another one. Everyone gets a cool sticker at the end and the winner gets to choose one of my cheesey stamps to keep...the winner stamps are ones I got from the $$tree...

for my younger ones who cant do the other games I mentioned, I will go online and look for a back drop for them to use.

for example...lets say we are talking about farm animals..

then I would go online and look for a farm back ground and then let the kids add the stamp animals, color the backdrop.

another fun thing to do with stamps....you know the dot to dot with bingo marker type sheets? We use those with stamps too...

today we used stamps to make wrapping paper for our D-day projects

last year for mothers day we used paint swatch sample cards and stamped flowers on them. We punched a hole in the top and added a ribbon. It was a book marker

The kids wrote a book about their mommy with tons of pics of them that I took through out the year....to date this has been my most successful Gift project yet. Some of the moms cried at the door when they saw them......

we also stamped the cover of the books.....it was a very fun project

Ages 2-5 LOVE them here. I have well over 100 and have them divided into theme bags. We use them 3 out of 4 weeks per month. Their FAVORITE thing to do with the stamps? Whatever they wish. Some will make a long line of stamps. Others will stamp them all on top of each other. ::

My DCK's love using stamp and ink pads but I notice that they like the alphabet, number and shape stamps better than the other sets we have too. I pretty much also have to have some sort of purpose for them in order for them to want to play with them ... a paper with their name on it that they find the letter and stamp their name with, a shape pattern that they have to continue etc.

Fingerprint stamping is also really popular with the kids. They'll use little scraps of paper to fingerprint each other with and use magnifying glasses to look at each others prints etc while they play policeman and such. Just give them a "job" to do with them to try to strike up interest.

                      Same here.

I have one kid who can still identify the order in which she put the stamps, despite the layering. Although, she puts her name (letter stamps) on the bottom in perfect order and even pretty well lined up! ::

:: That's hilarious! What a good memory. The papers end up looking like that "preschool brown" color you get when you let them go to town with painting. The children will proudly hand it to their parent and say, "I made this for you!" and the parents faces are always like this: OH! OKAY!

                        LOL!

I have ended up doing a combination of process art and product art (well, it starts off as product art but I still let them do it however they wish do so sometimes it still looks like the process art LOL). Unfortunately, the parents make it very apparent how they feel about process art despite my best attempts to educate them on the matter so I do include that in there since that's the ONLY thing the preschools in the area do. I do not wish to lose clients because we don't do anything "cute."

I have 100's of stamps from all my years of scrapbooking and card making but my favorites to use with the kids are the "kid" stamps (animals, smiley faces, etc.) with the ink in the cover. The ink dried out years ago but they love to stamp them into play-doh. The imprints come out beautifully and there's no inky mess everywhere. We still have our stamp and ink days, but this fulfills their need to stamp when I don't feel like cleaning up after them.
