    My new teacher policy...opinions?

    Please give me your opinions

    Teacher Vacation Policy

If you choose to take your child(ren) out of daycare for the summer, you will be subject to a holding fee to ensure your spot is available to you when you return to work in the fall. The holding fee will be equal to half your weekly tuition payment, but no less than $50.00.

I reserve the right to fill your spot during the weeks you will not be using it. Payment of the holding fee only ensures your spot is available when you return to work in the fall. You may request the use your spot, if available, in the summer by giving one week advance notice. On any week you choose to use even 1 of your scheduled days, you are responsible for full weekly tuition for that week. You are responsible for paying the holding fee, regardless of whether your spot is available to you during the summer weeks.

Holding fee payments will be collected every 4 weeks. You will be given a pay schedule during you last week of care. Your first payment will be due on your child's last day in attendance. Late payments are subject to a $20.00 per day late fee. If a payment is more than 7 days late you risk immediate termination of your contract. All payments are non refundable. In the even of a late payment you are still responsible for the payment due and all late fees.

This policy does not apply to school vacation weeks or any other time your child is not in attendance. During any other absence, you are responsible for your normal tuition payments.

My only question is if you enroll other families to fill the spot, how can you guarantee a spot in the fall? Would you dis-enroll the new family to take the family that is paying a holding fee? Just curious.

I would enroll other families only in the summer. I've had inquiries about looking for temp care in the summer.

Oh, I see. Well I think it sounds great! You're lucky to be able to fill teacher's spots with temp. summer openings, that's awesome!

What happens when a family inquires about a spot for summer, but it's filled?

Would the weekly fee due in summer be in addition to the $50 holding fee?

I would add something about 'if you chose to not pay the holding fee you are taking the chance that your spot will not be available for fall.'

I would also set a deadline as to when they need to get back to you with this form, I would have them sign it, and I would add something in about a termination of the summer holding fee contract.

The only feedback or suggestion I have is where you say:

"Late payments are subject to a $20.00 per day late fee"

I would change that to say:

"Late payments are subject to a $20.00 per calendar day late fee"

You'd be surprised at how many people will argue that weekends and/or holidays don't count as days.
