Those Who Follow A School-Year Schedule Or Mostly Have Teachers As DCP

Quick question - I mostly follow a school-year schedule & am closed for all of my kids' days off school. Works out well as my clients are teachers. I did change one thing for this next school year & am wondering if it is "too much". In addition to all the school closings (which for the most part do NOT cause inconvenience for parents since they are off also) this year I added a clause to my policies saying "provider reserves the right to close for up to (but not exceeding) 6 additional days and will give parents one month notice when possible"
I am worried that it will cause issues but I DON'T charge for days I close so there is no double payment. My DH said it is fine - even teachers get days off/sick days above & beyond the school closing days so no problem. Do those of you who follow school-year schedules take off days above & beyond the typical closing dates?

I think its fair to offer some sort of option for yourself in case you travel, are sick, have an emergency, have family visiting, etc. You are giving plenty of notice if possible and are taking the days unpaid. It seems fair to me.

Yes, most of the days I am closed it's a holiday and parents are off anyway. I have 2 weeks of vacation and 7 personal/sick days. Parents pay no matter what. I've never had a problem with this. My parents feel safe with my kids here and are very grateful.

I would do that WITH pay, so unpaid days seem fine for me! Everyone earns a little paid TO, IMO. That's very adequate notice, as well!

You are entitled to take vacation/sick days whenever YOU choose-it is YOUR business. As far as whether it is the norm-I would say yes.

A suggestion: Don't limit yourself to a certain number of days to close-you just may have an emergency and have people upset. I just list my holidays and mention that I, too, have family obligations, and sometimes get sick. I TRY to be open as often as possible, but will close for vacation and when I am too sick to provide care. I limit myself to 10 PAID days of vacation/sick per year, but I reserve the option to take more if it is necessary.

I follow the school calendar. Any days that teachers DO NOT have to report to work, I do not charge. I am allowed, by contract, up to 5 additional PAID days off per school year, that I use at my discretion.
