how many strikes 'til you're out??

how many complaints or citations does it take before a licensed childcare loses their license?

is it different if the daycare is at a home compared to a center?

it depends on what they did and if it was substantiated
people make complaints all the time because they are mad that they had to pay a 2 weeks notice or was maybe turned in for child neglect etc.( not saying you were) licensing agents know this and so they just investigate and find out the truth.

In general, if a daycare commits a very dangerous violation and it is proven, then they can be shut down for the safety of the public.

As far as it being different for a center or home?
I am not sure, but I do know that centers have different rules on the little stuff than the home day cares but the big stuff as far as supervision, pools, and personal rights... they are all the same.

It would help if you told us what they are accused of.

ok, then the next time licensing comes to do an inspection, they will be looking for those things.
I know that where I live if someone is cited for let's say a safety gate needed to be in a particular doorway, then the provider would have to take a picture of the correction and send it in but with overall cleanliness... especially if it was really bad... then they will get a follow up visit a lot sooner than they expect.

As far as over capacity... that is the first thing licensing checks for when they come in.

I hope you found a better daycare that meets your needs.
The most important thing to do as a parent is to do surprise visits.. but be prepared to take little junior home with you when you do.

yes!.. something llike it.. i was just asking what would happen if a complaint were filed cuz i didn't want her to get into too much trouble!.. but another parent of a child that went to the same daycare messaged me that they had been recently cited for those things!.. a relief on my part.. but now i'm just wondering how many citations she can get before it's a big license issue!..since there's more than just a couple parents out there that noticed the same things, i'm wondering how many, if any, citations she's had altogether...?

You can go to the licensing agency and read her public file if you need to know this.
Once licensing is involved, it's out of your hands.

I would think that if it is the same complaints, all at the or around the same time, that licensing would take that in to consideration and give her time to correct the violations.

If it is the same complaints, over an extended period of time and she is found to be in violation multiple times, she would lose her license.

I know here, that if you are over capacity and licensing finds out, they cite you and they will return within a few weeks to check it out. They will also contact the food program to request that they drop in unnanounced and report if you are over capacity.

My state finally had to give specifics, since their wording was so vague:

You can be shut down for serious, numerous, or repeated non-compliances.

Serious: there is a list somewhere that encompasses what is considered "serious". But anything that would seem very dangerous is included. Babies asleep on tummies, chemicals out, major safety hazards, etc.

Numerous: more than 7 areas of non-compliance in one monitoring visit.

Repeated: 3 non-compliances in the same area within a year.
