    The 15 minute napper

Newer part time kid in care, almost 2, the rest of the days is home with Mom. Mom says he is a great sleeper. He is very catered to at home, to the extent that he still has trouble self feeding, still gets bottles, and I suspect that they sleep with him. I went back to baby basics as far as food goes, and that is going pretty well.

Napping on the other hand.... he is still in a crib at home, so here he is in a pack and play. He does not cry when put in it, he cries when I leave the room. For the last two weeks, I have stayed in the room until he is asleep, BUT he wakes up and freaks out! Last week and today he slept a grand total of 15 minutes or less, and today I put him in the same room as me, thinking it was due to my absence that he was so upset (do NOT want to get into that routine, as I have a dedicated nap room and enjoy not having to tip toe around at nap) Last week he screamed longer (upon waking up) than he napped! He is obviously tired, as he is cranky and red eyed and attempts to go back in the nap room to lay down again after snack and TELLS ME "I sweepy now.".

Our nap room is as dark as I can get a room in the middle of the day, with a nightlight, I play classical music in the background and we read books, do a tuck in song and then I lay down in the room until everyone is asleep. He goes to sleep FINE, he just wakes soon afterwards.

Today I did that routine with him, then brought him out to nap in the play room. He still fell asleep fine, just woke up early.

Mom said she LIKES his not napping much here, because he goes home and crashes, he slept for 14 HOURS after leaving here last week, fell asleep in the car at 5:30 and didn't wake until the following morning. THAT tired.

    ANY ideas at all, please!

I bet Mom is not working on a nap schedule at home. It sounds like she works on what is most convenient for her.

This is extreme but if you have the space tell her that she has a week to get him on the same schedule at home. If he is still unable to nap at your house after that then he needs to come full time until he has adjusted to your schedule. My part timer did not adjust well until we upped his days here. Now he naps great most days. Took 2 weeks of 4 days a week.

I don't think Mom has a schedule for ANYTHING at home.

I don't have the space to offer them, even temporarily more days.

This family filled in my random odd days from other PT schedules, and it won't happen that another family needs those days so I am really trying to work it out. He comes for 2 days typically, but pays for 3 just in case.
