    Diarrhea?

My dcg arrived with a dirty diaper today and it was diarrhea!

Do you wait for 2nd episode before contacting dcp or send home after 1st one?

She also appears to have another cold. As does my whole family again!

Personally, I think it depends on the child.

I think there is a real difference between a loose stool and diarrhea and if I felt it were diarrhea, I would not hesitate to send the child home.

    How old is the DCG?

She is 2.5. And has already had a 2nd diaper of diarrhea. She has been here less than an hour.

Yep, I'd say she needs to go home.

I was going to suggest texting or calling the parents after the first episode to give them a "head's up" and a warning so they could be ready to pick up just in case she does it again, but she apparently already did it again......

I would send her home and not let her return until 24 hours of NO diarrhea.

I have already placed calls and texts to her parents and have heard nothing. First time sending a child home.

I don't have work numbers for either parents. But I know where they work should I call those numbers or head strait to emergency contacts?

How long to give them to respond?

Yes, I would call their work and ask for them. I would then tell them that they didn't respond to your texts so you had to call their work numbers.

If neither of them answers, I would immediately call their emergency contacts.

I usually give 45 minutes from the time a child is deemed needing to go home until the child is picked up and on their way home. But my community is smaller and none of my DCP's work more than 5 minutes away.

I would allow them no more than 1 hour to tidy up at work and be at your house and heading home with their child.

Make sure you let them know that you aren't being picky....our state laws require ANY child with diarrhea be sent home and not allowed back until they have been diarrhea free for a FULL 24 hours.

If the child has diarrhea more than 3 days in a row, I would require a doctor visit just to be sure it isn't anything more serious than a simply tummy/digestive bug

Also I would require the parents to give you contact numbers for their work so that they are reachable at ALL times. I think that is something our state requires too.

                    You are welcome!

Let me know how it goes....

Hopefully the parents are understanding and don't give your a hard time about this.

I totally understand it maybe from the DCG having a cold but honestly none of us are paid enough to deal with diarrhea and since our licensing laws say we don't have too, I certainly don't and won't.

I talked to the dad, he commented on a rash on dcg arm. I thought it was just a scrape. It seemed like they were expecting this call.

Just hope someone comes to get her. Dad wanted mom to be I couldn't get ahold of mom. So will see.

She more than likely had diarrhea all weekend and they were just hoping that she was done and they wouldn't have to pick up.

Did DCD say he was calling mom or was he expecting you to do it?

If he expected you to call DCM, I would tell him the balls in his court as you reached him first. He can either come get his DD or send his wife to do it but either way someone needs to pick her up within 60 minutes.

As far as the rash goes, if it is a rash and not a scrape and they have no explanation for it, I would require a doctor's visit before allowing her to return to care.

Our licensing regs say unexplained rash, vomiting and/or diarrhea and they must be excluded so again, you can always fall back on the state regulations if the parents give you grief about anything.

                        Hang in there....

Dad came to pick up. And I let them know she cannot come tomorrow and he was very understanding.

So hopefully my husband is going to take tomorrow off also because its going to be 90 degrees!

Well, I am glad they picked her up and didn't give you a hard time about it. I am guessing you are right about her having something over the weekend considering the way DCD acted and the questions he asked you.

Either way, I am glad you don't have to deal with any more diarrhea today.

I hope your DH gets tomorrow off as the weather is suppose to be heavenly so yah!!! for you!!! Enjoy! happyface happyface
