If I Hear This ONE MORE TIME TODAY My Ears Might Bleed!

    Take me by the tongue
    And I'll know you
    Kiss me 'til you're drunk
    And I'll show you

    All the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger

I don't need to try to control you
Look into my eyes and I'll own you

    With them moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger

My 2.5yo dcb has been singing this ALL MORNING.

What is with parents and encouraging kids to listen to trendy music? They all know the harlem shake, gangnam style, my dcg's favorite song is call my maybe.

What happened to the ABC's & the wheels on the bus in the car?

Oh man! I don't envy you. I do have a SA boy (who's last day today) that does the gangnam style dance which is actually pretty funny, but I definitely try not to encourage it. I am really anti radio and spend most of my car ride with my daughter listening to the Tangled soundtrack. If we try to listen to a different CD she immediately asks for her "moomie" songs. Disney stuff I don't mind but I am glad we don't have to listen to raffi any more in the car, as its all we hear during the day. I think at some point its appropriate to listen to radio stuff with your kids (if that's what you're into) but at 2.5 I don't think they're quite there yet. Especially when you have a kid reciting inappropriate lyrics to other kids... I know if someone was introducing my kid to that mess I'd be a little perturbed.

I know ! I have parents that actually encourage it. I like letting kids listen to all kinds of music, we play freeze dance to Motown
and listen to some appropriate trendy music (they love "dog days are over" by Florence and the Machine), but it just seems some parents have no filter for what is appropriate for children.

I have a friend who worked at a commercial daycare and had a little boy in her class whose father was so proud that he could Sing the song that goes "hey girl, hush your lips - do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips". This was actually being encouraged !

It is not only encouraged with two of my kids, it is praised and rewarded like crazy. Some of the lyrics that they know, I would NOT post here. (whistle song, lots of rap) at this point, they don't realize what they are saying, but that doesn't last forever and it's NOT all that cute that they know entire CD's that are labeled M/mature but NOT the ABC song. SERIOUSLY!?

That song is an ear worm, when I hear it I try not to resist because it's futile, it will move through me faster if I don't tense up

Though it is highly inappropriate for children in my opinion.

My own kids know gangnam style...but we listen to smooth jazz, classical, and ethnic music too. I am very careful to choose what I listen to with kids around. Definitely not anything inappropriate. I was shocked when I went a bday party at one of those jumpy places and they were blasting mostly adult music for kindergartners.

I totally agree with not exposing kids to inappropriate lyrics or thinking it's cute when they sing along. I read this news story (see below) awhile back about a 6-year-old getting expelled from school for sexual harassment because he was singing "I'm Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO to a girl at school.

Hi Readers — Feeling sluggish? You can listen to the song below OR just read this piece about a boy in Denver who told a fellow first-grader, “I’m Sexy and I Know It.” The brilliant school administrators defined this as “unwelcome sexual advance” and promptly suspended the boy for three days. It’s enough to make

Obviously, that is an extreme reaction to take to this kid's behavior. Still, schools and parents tend to overact today and there is a zero tolerance policy for that kind of behavior. I wonder how many parents would be teaching their kids to sing inappropriate lyrics if they knew that this reaction was a possibility?

On the other hand, I really believe in exposing kids to more than just "kids music." I personally hate the cheesy, cheery, squirrel-voice songs that make up a lot of "kids music." Parents/teachers can find good stuff out there that everyone can enjoy. We're digging Mumford and Sons right now, and Florence and the Machine are another favorite.

This was in my facebook post, and it reminded me of this thread...

In my house we listen to toddler tunes, and veggie tales mostly, but I bust out some David Lanz or Jim Brickman to calm them down sometimes, also because it calms ME down :: Every once in awhile I'll put the kids music channel from cable on, but it plays way too much Taylor Swift and my ears start revolting after awhile

I switch between the radio and pandora kids music. There's a 'I'm Elmo and I know it' version of the sexy and I know it song.

We choreographed a dance w the kids to the gangnam style song. All the kids knew the song even before we played it.

Some songs are very inappropriate w their lyrics so I will switch the station. But you girls gave me something to think about, because I never thought of parents minding the radio being on

my kids listen to trendy music, the songs on the radio are all edited, I don't think Gangham style is innapropriate at all, my kids love it, and its in a different language, we listen to lots of rhapsody where I have lists and lists of kids songs, but I have some trendy songs incorporated, and the kids move and dance the most when gangham stlye comes on.

I do think gangham style is inappropriate.

It took my forever to get dcg to stop singing "hey sexy lady" around here. If my other dcks went home singing that, I'm sure I would have been getting some phone calls.

THAT is my issue with gangnam style, my dcb says 'hey sexy lady' to me about 100x a day. It is hard to curb it/get it to stop when his parents encourage him to sing the song and he gets so much positive attention for it at home.

sexy is a highly inappropriate word for a 2 year old to say/know, imho.

I'm sexy and I know it was replaced with the elmo version here as well, since they all knew that song as well!

                          FRUSTRATING!

About the gangnam style song - we just sing 'hey baby baby!' Instead of sexy lady. I thought that was what it said all along and had to look it up based on the other posts
