Today where I live in the central valley of CA the wind is horrible. It is 25-35 mph with gust up to 50 mph. With this in mind would you still take the kids outside? I only have two here right now they both have coats with hoods but as soon as we got outside the hoods flew off. I'm afraid of ear aches. Am I just being over protective???

I'd be worried about earaches, wind burn, dirt and debris blowing into eyes etc
I don't think you're over reacting. I would not be going outside with sustained winds that strong and definitely not with gusts that strong. That'll knock a child right over!
Eta -this chart may help you determine what is safe and reasonable to play outside in

I'm in CA too but closer to the bay. It is really windy outside where its not even just a cool breeze but where it is sunny and cold at the same time- the type of weather that freezes your fingers and toes and makes them sensitive to the point that its even more painful if you stub them. Its not as windy as it was last night though. If it's more than a cool breeze or a cool temperature; I would keep them inside.- Flag

We are on high wind advisory too...if it's blowing hard we won't go out because of everything already mentioned. BUT I also have A LOT of huge trees who's branches have been known to snap in the past.- Flag

The wind seems to be getting worst so we will be staying inside. The kids were begging to go outside. But we are doing lots of "rainy day" activities.
I checked my original post to make sure I wrote ear ache not infection. I do know the difference. I wrote ear ache.- Flag

Yeah in Arizona we get a lot of wind and blowing dirt. The kids actually really love any weather out of the norm (hot, dry and sunny). I suppose if it were cold I would be less inclined to stay out awhile, but that's only because I can't handle the cold ::. Today it was 76 degrees and very windy...a little dusty and a few extra branches in the yard
. We also go out in the rain whenever we chance upon some, even if it messes with our schedule. The ONLY time I keep the kids in all day is if we are in the dead heat of summer and the highs are projected to be above 112 degrees (with a heat advisory/warning). Those days are the WORST!!!! I hate inside days!!! We usually only have about 5-10 days per year where we don't go outside at all. Even when the high is projected at 110, we usually do still make it outside (for 30 minutes at 8:30 am when it is "only" ~95 and then we do water play).
