    Diapers for Sensitive Bum

I have a child here w/very sensitive skin. He is 18 months old. Dck is no dairy, no gluten, no nuts, no strawberries/raspberries, no citrus, no juice, no soy, no corn, no melon. Detergent is Dreft, no dryer sheets or fabric softener used. That cleared up a lot of the rashes that he was having.

The only place he gets a rash now is his bottom. They are not just a little bit. Fire engine red within minutes of pooping.

Seventh Generation diapers were working but mom can't find size 5 in that brand and size 4's are to small for dck.

Diaper Brands tried in last 6 months:

    Pampers Cruisers
    Pampers Sensitive
    Huggies
    Parent's Choice
    Luvs
    Target Brand
    White Cloud
Seventh Generation (worked but can't find size 5's)

Any ideas on what to try next?

Can he bathe in the dreft? To help clear it up when it's starting and bad?

        Cloth

        and ditch the Dreft.

Other than that....red within minutes of pooping does sound like a reaction to something in his diet but it sure does seem like they've covered all the bases...perhaps a good probiotic is in order.

        have they tried eliminating eggs?

I would also put aquaphor on him all the time to give his skin some protection.

Dreft is AWFUL, it contains a LOT of fragrance! I would go to a hypoallergenic detergent (All free and clear worked for my DS with SEVERE exzema)

I agree with a PP about eggs, I would try to eliminate those and see if it helps. Coating his butt with *edited because I don't know where the rest of this sentence disappeared to!* a barrier cream, at every single diaper change. I still have to coat ds's face with vaseline if he eats ANYTHING acidic because he will bleed from pasta sauce on his chin. UGH!

and I would also go cloth, Gdiapers are GENIOUS and very child care friendly. http://www.gdiapers.com/

I supply them for my daycare kiddos still in diapers. (1 at the moment) They have flushable liners for poo, and I have never had a kid have a reaction to them (even super sensitive ds)

oh, there are also some new diapers that I saw at my local TARGET of all places--they are cloth, but with the option for a disposable insert. So kind of best of both worlds and in the same vein as Gdiapers. I forgot about those. So either of those would be a good choice.

Food dyes/preservatives/flavors should all be removed (but probably are with that limited of a diet). Fish/shellfish is something else I've thought of...I don't know what else would be a big one...unless he's still getting trace amounts of something (cross contamination, hidden ingredients, etc). Or Caesin. If he's DF but not caesin free that could be a culprit.

Cloth with a cloth detergent. My Dc baby had the same issues until we switched to cloth with Charlie's soap. Not a one red bum since!

I would think that this may be due to teething. Some just poop acid and it burns their bum. Also, why is he eating all sorts of stuff. To me, if he had sensivite skin then I would bring him in to the dr's. Also, they sell all sorts of laundry free detergents so I would try thing. Bath him in aveeno too. I would either use cloth, but if they were sensitive to the diaper it would affect them the minute you put it on not when he poops thats why i think it something they are eating.

                      Cloth is good for rashes.

But,it honestly sounds like it's the poop...not the diaper. They should try adding probiotics every day and see if that helps keep her poop from burning her.

They probably need to switch to cloth (good cloth diapers) for a while until the rash clears up, then maybe go back to sposies with a really amazing bum cream... I have no idea what an amazing bum cream is though... maybe there's something out there that will protect her tush.

She might just need to let the skin dry out and heal before putting her back in disposables.

If they have a Super Target nearby, maybe it will have the Charlie Banana diapers there and they can get her in those really fast. Otherwise, if there isn't a cloth diaper store close (or craigslist) they'd have to order some online, which sort of defeats the purpose, since it sounds like she needs it asap.

http://www.diapers.com/subcat=Diaper...nth+Generation They take two days or less to get there.

For cloth.. this is very good system. It's breathable, yet versatile.

You can buy caldasene powder in Walgreens. I think it's about the same price as amazon. But, it's actually really good for rashes. I am not sure why it's not more common or popular, but I have cleared up a bad rash with this stuff and cloth diapers in just a day or so. http://www.amazon.com/Caldesene-Baby...ds=zinc+powder
